    Question 7mgte - Whats this?

so im just looking over the car and gotta couple of quearys....

A: My heaters dont blow hot, yet all the plumbing seems fine... why?

B: Cruise control dont work... my guess is that its running an aftermarket ECU which is only on a Base tune atm... correct?

    C: Whats this?

D: where does this hose go?

E: does this t-junction screw in here, and attach to the wastegate actuator?

F: What sender is this, screwed into the block below the inlet manifold?

applogies if these are simple questions or stupid ect ect, but im completly self taught and am trying to learn

thanks for you patience and help

No Idea. Make sure the valve opens when you put it on heat. If it doesnt you need to work out why, could either be the valve itself or the signal to it

B: Cruise control dont work... my guess is that its running an aftermarket ECU which is only on a Base tune atm... correct?
What car? If its one with a separate cruise ecu it should still work. Can you turn it on? May need to check the wiring with respect to speedo input, Park/neutral sw., handbrake etc.

    C: Whats this?

Looks like you have circled the idle control valve.

D: where does this hose go?

Not sure, try the manual http://www.cygnusx1.net/Supra/Librar...3/default.aspx

E: does this t-junction screw in here, and attach to the wastegate actuator?

    Yes.

F: What sender is this, screwed into the block below the inlet manifold?

Think that would be the knock sensor.

Those hoses are the idle up for the power steering
One goes to inlet between AFM and turbo, the other goes to the manifold.

Those sensors are both knock sensors, I don't know why there 2 there, because one is supposed to at about cyl2 the other cyl5

As far as the heater it concerned it could be one of many things.
Check the TSRM as I'm pretty sure it has a fault finding section.

Cruise control will be becaues of the neutral/park switch.
Just disconnect the thick BLACK/WHITE wire going into the cruise ecu.

heater not working could be a few of these reasons...

make sure the vents are opening up properly in the dash..
make sure the fan in the dash is working

then once you know that is all well and good, while the car is cold, turn the heater on, turn the engine on WITHOUT the radiator cap on a slight hill so the radiator cap is the highest point in the engine bay, and then let the car run till the thermostat opens and let it get abit hot..

hopefully that will bleed the air out of the system as you may have an airlock in the heater lines or heater core

I'll add 2 cents worth to the heater question...

My fav trick on an 'older' vehicle i.e. over 10 years is to put bungs in the heater fittings and slip the lines back in the original locations so vehicle appears completely roadworthy at quick inspection but no risk of coolant bath from heater core failure! Maybe I'm not the only one with dodgy intentions out there?

    A) in my supra anyway there is wirirng at the heater core (in engine bay), check that its plugged in! When i wired in my haltech i noticed the heater core wiring goes through the engine loom, i BET its not wired up.

    B) nothing to do with the aftermarket ecu, seperate system, it will most likely be the clutch /brake switch is not wired up to the cruise module and it is not allowed to engage as if you were driving along holding braking and trying to turn on cruise

    C) IAC - Idle air control valve, its a valve that bypasses the throttle and allows air to enter the intake manifold so the ecu can control the Idle RPM, its a unipolar stepper motor, without it your car won't idle.

    D) Thats a power steering breather hose, it goes across the timing covers and plugs into the hoses attached to the intake manifold

    E) Yes that is boost reference for the waste gate actuator, it needs to be directly connected to the actuator (about 5cm hose) without it your turbo will overboost and you'll hit fuel cut

    F) knock sensor, if you leave it unplugged your car will retard timing hardcore on boost.

    Any questions?
