I don't know that engines would like ingesting brake cleaner, it might explain the dieseling and white smoke.
Next time use carby cleaner.
okay, problems persist... the 3sgte was running fine yesterday, took it home, turned it off, went to restart it and it diesled, then puffed out white smoke out the airfilter....when it does this it reads 5psi on the boost gauge..then other times itll start, but as soon as any throttle applied it dies, and the vaccum gauge reads -15psi only. i was using brake cleaner to clean the intercooler etc out as it had lots of oil..would this do it?

I am the sun
lol, only used a little bit, but was only used to clean the intercooler etc then left to dry, but the white smoke isnt good..
cos the oil is probly now vapour due to the brake cleaner its probly burning off the oil, i would of suggested hosing all the crap out and letting it dry.. newayz
have you let the motor warm up and see if it comes good?
Okay, i took off the inlet pipes etc just after it did it, and the smoke is coming out of turbo inlet and out of throttle body...when it does idle it is reading -10~15psi then dies after 2-3min,. have idled it roughly for 10min in total engine temp got a little bit above cold, so couldnt test if it went away =( why would the engine suddenly do this? was running the day before..all i did was turn it off..then it didnt start, so i cleaned it all out and tested and then yeah..time to start saving for some acl pistons etc?
brake cleaner is funky shit - and gives off toxic fumes when combusted. It contains stuff like chlorine, acetone, MEK and ethanol to name a few. It's meant to evaporate/flash off to the atmosphere - not be combusted.
It works by quickly dissolving grease and carry particles off in suspension - that shit mostly drips off and the remaining liquid quickly evaporates.
You should have used a couple of $2 tins of degreaser from supacrap then washed that out with petrol- followed by lots of compressed air. What you have done is force your engine to digest dirty dry-cleaning fluid mixed with crap.
are you saying your boost gauge is reading negative 10 - 15psi?... if so its starting to sound like you have a vacuum leak you sure you didnt leak and hoses loose, vacuum lines anything like that?
um yeah reading -10~-15psi on idle and rough as guts, then when it does the smoke thing it just grumbles (diesles) after ignit off and then blows smoke and reads +5psi...??? yeah i didnt directly spray the brake cleaner into it :\ i just cleaned the intercooler etc =(
did you clean the exterior or interior of the intercooler?
and are you sure the plug leads are on the right outlets on the dizzi - sounds like it's running on 2-3 cyls and one of the cyls is getting huge mouthfuls of fuel.
Given that you undid the piping I would also look for air-leaks (suggest re-assembly starting with adaptor on throttle, loose fit of that short turbo-to-intercooler hose, fit intercooler into throttle adaptor, tighten clamps as required)
yeah dizzy aok, re did piping back up again because i thought perhaps i forgot a vaccumm hose some where.. all good though, one thing though; my 2nd nipple on the waste gate actuator doesnt go into the small thin tube for the TVSV..it goes into a random metal pipe which links to the AC idle up and then back into the intake..i blocked that up the other day thinking it went to the tvsv and it only produced 8psi as expected..??
Turned out the rotor was knackered, causing the engine to attempt to run backwards, new rotor on there and bang first shot
