    Default 1990MA70 subframe vs 1988 mz20 subframe

just dropped my motor in and the sump is sitting on the subframe

    motor from 1988 z20 going into 1990 a70.

Subframes look similar enough but i gather there are minor differences as the motor is not sitting properly.

also, can this be fixed purely by buying different mounts? or am i better off swappng the subframe?

89+ cross member is different in the a70 supras (assuming same for z20 soarers)

not sure if alloy parts of engine mounts are different (eg bit that attaches to block), but the rubber section is (eg bit that goes between cross member and alloy section)

being as you already have both cross members, cheapest/easiest option is probably just to swap them over (unless of course alloy sections are the same across the change in year and you have the rubber section that goes with the cross member in the supra)

cbf re-reading all of that to find out if I made any sense or not, am very drunk right now and typing is becoming difficult

Define 'the sump is on the subframe'

You should be using the mounts from your original motor on the new one, and assuming the sumps are the same it will bolt in perfectly.

Use this to help you work out which one you want - top one is JZA70, Post 89 MA70 or MZ20, and the bottom one is pre 89 MA70/MZ20

    There is no original motor,

i bought the registered shell more or less completely stripped.

as i said the sump is resting on the subframe and taking the weight of the motor
The beam just behind the power steering rack

The engine mounts are not resting in their cradles.

The gearbox mount lines up and all i so i assume the cradle on the subframe is slightly different between the models.

if someone has spare 7m mounts for a 90+supra it would be easier than swapping the subframe.

Yes, you'll need the steel engine mounts (or alloy, not sure what they are) and you'll need the rubber mounts as well.

They both differ between the two generations.
