Default Water to air intercooler - Radiator in boot?

I've got a PWR barrell cooler, and I don't really have space up front to put the mini radiator for the water component.

It's about 60cmx70cmx20cm, and has all the gear with it, including thermo fan and the water pump.

I've got space in the boot to put the cooler, and I can mount it up ok, over the top of the two breather holes in the boot floor.

I can then run the hoses all the way from the front to the back of the car no worries.

But I"m thinking that perhaps there won't be enough airflow in the boot to have effective cooling of the water? Or maybe the heat will be taken out of the air sufficiently such that it doesn't need massive amounts of air flow?

    What do people think?

I think you need to find room for it up the front, if it's a drag car then it might be okay for a single pass, but it's going to heatsoak pretty fast without some proper airflow.

To make it work you will have to cut some big holes either in the boot lid or rear of the boot section(just take out the tail lights lol) other wise your just gonna turn your boot into an oven.
got an aircon on the car? you can plumb that up through the heat exchanger if your keen, seems to work very well.

why not twin thermos?? SPAL make high powered thermos that will help cool a lot..

also the water will start cooling in the hose while its travelling down. and if ur running the pump constant it shouldnt be too bad..

when you look at the GT-Four WTA set up (i have owned all 3) the HE was never that big. maybe you could go for a gtfour HE and solve your fitament issues.

or another option depending on what car/room you have is to fit it under the boot with shroud's to block the exhaust heat and pick up cool air from under the car. also with fan's to help it when stationery.

what car/engine/boost are you running? as that will also impact on how "optimum" the setup needs to be. if it's only low SC boost then you may only need a slim HE. but if it's big turbo high boost then you need the best cooling as possible.

you'd have to do something like the group b TA64 (mounted to underside of boot lid with suitable ventilation in and out) or same-era audi. could eliminate the spare wheel bin and with suitable ducting, mount it underneath?

    Thanks for the thoughts guys.

I was thinking that the boot wouldn't provide enough cooling. The thermo fan on the HE is pretty good, but even so, it needs a big amount of cool air getting to it.

Jonathon - I bought the 1uz TB off ya mate, that give ya a hint as to what engine it is? ;-) Just kidding mate. It's a 1uz in a ra23 with a gt42 on it. So I think I might need to rethink my locations....

yeh...i know but i bough it to fit on a 3sgte....i assumed if you already had a 1uz then you wouldn't need a 1uz TB...which left me guessing.

so big booster or low booster?

the reason i suggested under boot is cause tristan's TT v6 mr2's is running a HE under the rear with the IC's in the boot and seems to deliver enough cooling for 19psi from a gt40something. i'll take a pic of them if he'll let me and post for you.

Nah, I sold my 1uz TB ages ago because I went gas, but then decided now I need it back. :-)

Probably 10psi ish boost? maybe 12, I dunno yet.

I could put the HE under the rear, but I'm tipping I'd end up hitting something and breaking it knowing my luck..
