I'm pretty sure reputation is factored into it also
OK, I've read the rules and guidelines, however something may have slipped past.
It seems that someones rep power is based on their number of posts (for example 1000 post user changes your rep by +/-5 point, 10 post user changes your rep by +/-1 point). Would it not be a better system to make a person's rep power based on their rep (eg user with 100 rep gives/takes 5 rep with every vote, user on 15 rep gives/takes 1 point)
I have no idea if this is possible given the forum software, however I suggest it may be a better way of rationing the rep.
Opinions?

NB, the numbers used in this post are straight off the top of my head and any likeness to real figures, living or dead, is purely coincindental.

Rep power is based on:
Your reputation
Your post count
How long you've been a member
Thanks. I'm glad to hear several things are included.
Personally I think too much emphasis is placed on number of posts.
A person could have very little rep ( <50), but a lot of posts in the general section, and be able to dish out a fair amount of rep.
On a side note, is it possible to remove the ability to give rep in the non-car discussion forum?
