just put some welsh plugs in the injector holes...
and figure out how to run your fuel pump...
don't even think about converting to EFI... Just buy an injected one
Hi, first post on these forums after lurking for a while.
My gf's car (holden nova, aka corolla) has completely destroyed its headgasket and a piston. It has the 4af c in it. I have another engine available, but that is the 4af E with the injectors in the head.
For starters, can the carbie manifold fit the injected head? (i know the injector ports will ahve to be plugged)
If it doesnt, what needs to be swaped to convert to injected. I think its;
-fuel pump/tank
-ecu
-associated wiring loom
Is there anything elce? or is there any major differences between the C and E cars?
Thanks,
Tom

thats the thing, i have the injected motor, but its a manual, and the gf's car is auto.
what else needs swapping to put the efi motor in?
anyone else? need to decide what to do later today, so any more help is appreciated.
Dude, swapping the carby fed back that is auto over to some homologation of EFI + auto/manual will be a big task.
It's doable, but it'll take you yonks. Do you have the time?
ah, ok. so would it be easyer to swap the motor and use the carbie set up? dont know about the fuel pump now though.
hmmm
Well the cam profile might be different for the C vs e motors? I don't know...
I would imagine that urnning the efi engine as a carby engine would probably would, but perhaps not as well as you might like.
Depends on how long you have mate, you stil have to plug up the head somehow, and that's not exactly a two minute job either unless you have the tools.
Just swap the engine (including box), loom, ecu, fuel tank (with in tank pump) and fuel lines across.
Tank, pump and lines from ANY e92,3,4 will fit. SHould only be $120 from wreckers.
AE90 Silvertop - GONE; 2001 ST215W GT-T Manual - SOLD; EP82 Starlet GT - Sold
Now driving 20V Turbo 1.8 N-S FWD
iv got another car spare with a stuffed clutch, but the gf cant drive manual, and doesnt want to learn. makes it alot harder for me
again, use 50 cent welsh plugs to block the injector holes..
for the fuel pump, the problem (from memory) is that the 4afc has the pump mounted onto the cylinder head. ... I THINK that the EFI engines dont have the hole in the head for the pump to mount into... either make a hole... drill and file... or mount a low pressure electric pump on the car... run it off your coil... or just run a seperate power line with a toggle switch... (hide the switch as an extra anti theft device)....
why you would even consider converting the car to EFI ... very big job for little gain.
^ only considering it because i've got an efi car and a carbie car with a stuffed engine. i've been doing some more reaserch and it looks like the e head needs to be drilled/filed/something done at the fuel pump mount, and that the e cams have the lobe for the fule pump so thats the way ill go.
thanks, Tom
