Yep, this was done because the gearboxes themselves had no overdriven gears. A W58 obviously does, so why would you want an overdrive on top of an overdrive? To gear it for a 500km/h top speed? Obvious BS.

If you include reverse and neutral, it is a 7-speed box!

it *could* be a test bed for a "turbo/super" model that was all the rage late 80s / early 90s.

you know, like the nissan march turbocharged supercharged engines. sometimes they were marketed as being "twin charged" - could be where the confusion lies.

although the "ZZ" nomenclature wasn't brought in until the 1ZZ-2ZZ engines......?

if it is, then bloody hell, buy it!

I CAN'T speak to any odd ball cars coming from Toyota....

I CAN speak about odd balls coming from Detroit, especially in the late 60s, and early 70s, and coming from Ford.

The line folks could order any combination of parts they chose! For instance... I have seen the car, AND the build sheet on a 1969 Mustang hardtop, BOSS 302, 3spd, 3.50 final drive - it is the ONLY one of its kind! Oddballs from Detroit EXIST...

Whether or not such cars exist in the Toyota line.... that can only be answered by Toyota....
Information is POWER... learn the facts!!

With all due respect dude, someone having something oddball from a manufacturer is very different than someone claiming they've got multiple things that didn't even exist.

There could well be a 5M-GZEU type thing - I've heard of 1G-GZTEs, and the sideways Tarago engine supercharged too, and Toyota Europe putting a blower on 2ZZ-GEs on the ZZE123 3 door... I'd love to see a pic and manufacturers plate to verify the blown 2.8 though.

The 1G-GZTE was an aftermarket kit that was made to turbo a 1G-GZE

oh ok cool. getting off topic somewhat, but who was the manufacturer of this kit out of curiousity?
not to be confused with the HKS twincharge kit for the 4agze.
