For turbo on a budget go for the GZE. Should be no need to rebuild if you get a low km 1/2 cut and will be able to handle the 15-20psi you want. The 20v will just add complications and cost to a turbo setup without any real gain. IMO that is.
I have had my ta22 for a while now and have just got it back from the re-spary. I am contimplainting which 4a to put in. I have herd good things about all. I am having trouble deciding between the 16 valve the 20 valve or the 4agze. i am looking for the one which will fit in easy, I plan to completly re build the interanls with forged componets as i am planning to turbo it and run around 15 to 20 pound of boost so i need a strong block too. any information would be much apreciated.![]()

I like 4AGE's .... a lot. why put one in a relatively heavy car like a Celica when you can fit bigger motors in there, that can make the same power as a 4a with less stress? 3SGTE, 1GG for example.
2zz-ge/t/z
the reason i am going with the 4age is because from what reserch i have done they seem to be the easiest to put in, easy to find and parts are cheap. i have also head that putting in the larger ie heavier engine in can cause understeer and bad steering response.
4ag=cast iron block
2zz=ally block
i havent herd a great deal on the 2zz as far as i know they are a fairly new engine from toyota, but i dont know what they would be like fitting in the engine bay (mounts etc) as well as what box to put behind it. and although alloy is light, cast is strong can handle heat and high rpm as well as boost. not that a well built alloy wont but im not sure about the 2zz
there is a mob in the states called monkey wrench racing doing really good (and powerful) things with them, but as far as making one rwd there isnt much info kicking about.
custom bell housing would be needed.
4ag has been done many many times, easy conversion, lots of info.
Hi,
The easiest to put in is a 2T-G.
A 1G is a 6 cylinder and will be a rather tight fit in the engine bay of a TA22.

thats why i think it would be best with the 4age / ze as there relativly easy to install and can make a respectable amount of power when done right. but which one is the question, 4agze makes sence as it is already supercharged, but i want it to perform when i put the turbo on. i only want to do it once![]()
7AGTE.
Get some good rods (cheap enough and easy to get) and GZE pistons, a small port head, etc. A GT28 turbo and an Ebay exhaust manifold.

I've put a 4AGZE into a TA22, and it is a lot of work. If I had my time again I would have rebuilt my 2TG. My recipe would be:
3T crankshaft
88mm pistons ~ 10.5 compression
Larger valves with porting
Mild cams
Change to electronic distributor
Re-jet carbs
2.25" exhaust
You could do all of that for cheaper than a 4AZGE fitted. You could fit a 4AGE for cheaper, but there isn't much power difference between this and a healthy 2TG.

The software required Win95 or better, so I installed Linux.

isn't there alot of people just bolting on a dirty turbo setup with an upside down SR20 manifold onto relativley stock 2T's making decent HP... you can built a pretty strong 2T from a bin of parts from what i've been reading on these forums.. and chuck a turbro on it...
and the TA22 celica isn't a 'heavy car'
