    Thanks guys,

So far so great, links are a big help and pointers are most welcome... would still like to hear from anyone knowing the differences in centers/carriers between Mk3 and Mk4 Supras and what diff ratios I'd be able to get to suit the V161 manual... guess I'll have to grease up and commando-roll under the Supra to check it out...

Another question I wouldn't mind getting an answer to, would I be better looking into using a 2JZ-GE head if I'm looking to get big power?? I read elsewhere under a thread comparing flowtests of 1JZ and 2JZ heads that someone ended up getting best results in a high horsepower application using a 2JZ-GE head because of the bigger exhaust ports allowing more flow... it was noted that the 2JZ-GTE head had smaller exhaust ports to promote higher velocity gasflow in order to spool turbos more efficiently...??

I looked into tall ratios for the G series a while ago, unfortunately there don't appear to be any OEM ratios available and all the aftermarket ones are low ratios for the rock-hopping crowd. Having said that it wouldn't be hard to adapt an A series from a TT Supra, it's a similar size to the G series and it comes with a 3.2:1 ratio. You might be up for custom driveshafts though, which makes things rather expensive.

As for the cylinder heads, it's true the 2JZ-GE flows better than the GTE stock, but for big power applications you'd be porting it anyway in which case there's SFA difference. The GTE head has been proven to flow insane amounts of power so I wouldn't worry about that side of things.

dude, seriously, power isn't going to be your issue

a stock 2jz with standard turbo's and reasonable exhaust/intercoooler will make enough to make that car stupid quick, with a reasonable mid sized single, you should get good response and more than 300rwkw before touching anything else.. that will make it fairly seriously 400rwhp car.. which you won't get down to the ground without slicks and a racetrack it will also mean that you have more power than you can handle for 3,500 - 7000 rpm..

thanks bloke... too much power is still not enough tho...

I've been doing some more research and will have pics shortly, Can I post them here or should I have my own pic-host??

I've been requested to complete the Celica in several broad stage waypoints by the engineer certifying it, First waypoint includes the full suspension fitted and inspected and for the next week or so, this'll be my goal. Second is with the engine and gearbox fitted and lastly as a complete functioning unit ready for rego. Some observations I've already made shows how easy the rear end will be to bolt up, only drawback is the strut towers I'll need to weld into the rear and I'm still not sure how that'll effect the fueltank or whether I can even use the existing coil or shock mounts under the rear. I expect to have the IRS assembly dummy fitted before the weekend, if anyone has any experience welding automotive structural sections with time and locality on hand, let me know...

Fascinating project... Definately want to see some pics here though!

As for G diff gears, you can get taller ones aftermarket, I've got a nearly new set of 3.5s sitting unloved in the back shed.
