    Default stock inlet manifold cut and shut - opinions please

    Hi all, im doing an evo 7 motor into a KE70 and need to have a forward facing plenum as it faces to firewall in stock setup. I really dont want to atm or really cant afford to spend lots of moneys on a nice shiney new custom plenum. I had hope when i heard that the evo 3 inlet manifold had the same bolt pattern as the evo 4 - 9's so i raced out and went and bought one thinking i could get away with it but the evo 3 manifold has no injector bosses (they are in the head) and the ports are a bit off so basically would require the evo 7 flange cut and welded on to it. Too much fart arsing around me thinks.

    this is the evo 3 manifold with the evo 7 gasket on it

    So far ive only had one opinion and it came from someone who i believe knows what they are talking about but i need some other people's thoughts. Old mate reckon's if i cut and shut the 7 manifold i might upset the flow of the runners as the opposite side of the throttle is too close to no. 1 runner. To me i sort of agreed but then i took the throttle off and had a look inside and changed my mind a bit.

    It was really hard to take a pic of inside the plenum

    Would it help if before welding on a flange for the throttle add about 5 - 10cm of pipe the same diameter as the throttle to space the throttle away from the runners?

    i'm surprised to hear the words "evo 7 motor" and "budget" in the same sentence.

    wouldn't it make more sense just to stick a SR20 in the KE70? the one i have been in was completely tits, or are you going for the difference factor?

    why is the evo 3 manifold any better? could you cut the individual runners, flip the plenum then weld it up? this would give you a low mount manifold, but is probably worth looking in to.

    good luck

    This is not intended for a budget build, however im am budgeting to get the conversion done and running for 10 grand and then go from there, as my previous builds have been the other way around which was upgrade everything first and then get it on the road. Id rather get it all running and enjoy it and then when i start to get bored of the available power then upgrade.

    SR20 = GAY

    but on an all serious note, yes the sr/ca/4a whatever would have been alot simpler but they've all been done to death, so yeah something different. Besides which i believe the 4G63 is the best 2ltr 4cyl out there and you can run 22psi (and I have heard of 25psi) on a stock motor. can an SR do that? i dont think so.

    The evo 1 - 3 has the inlet and exhaust on opposite sides of the motor so the factory 3 manifold is facing towards the front of the motor on a 7. The problem i have with making the 3 manifold work is that i have to pay someone by the hour to cut and weld the runners which is a time consuming task and the amount that it would cost wouldnt be worth keeping the stock 3 manifold, id rather put the money towards a custom plenum but dont want to go over the budget i have set. So its back to the evo 7 manifold, if its just a simple cut n shut it would get me by for the mean time and put me back on track for the "budget" build.
