Default 7MGE head gasket.. which one??

.. just after some feedback on various head gaskets that people have used on 7MGE engines.. was looking at getting HKS but cannot afford the $650.. have read topics about HKS & Cometic on these forums but was wondering if anyone has used Ishino or Beck Arnley which i found on ebay and are made in Japan.. other brands i've come across which make gaskets to suit this model are FEL-PRO, APEX, Mr.Gasket..

Is it just a standard 7m-ge?? or is it worked off its nuts??

I'd go standard Toyota gasket with ARP head studs for a stock/lightly modded 7m, wouldnt bother with COMETIC/HKS unless you want to rip the block out to get it decked and its a hi-po 7mgte!

not sure if ARP make headgaskets too!

but yea, standard toyo piece with ARP head studs!!!

thank-you mate.. no it's not worked at all and won't be in the near future at least.. got the ARP head studs.. don't think they make head gaskets.. heard good reports about ACL gaskets on this site.. heard so-so things about toyota gaskets.. i may end up going with Ishino - quality Jap make.. just wanting to hear feedback from someone who's used them, or another Jap make being sold by an ebay mob called planetautoparts (that's they're ebay username).. anyone heard of them?

A toyota gasket will go just fine dude. On a standard engine its all you need. If you are evetually gonna upgrade the engine this would probably involve either a conversion or possibly removing the head if your gonna play with that motor anyhow so why spend dollars you dont have to.
Wish I had a F#%ken awesome toyota.. saving for the goodness now.... stay tuned....

Honestly go a mono torque gasket and brand new head blots only reason being any 7mge head gaskets that i have done have not blown again, whereas the toyota gasket was prone to blowing again

would'nt waste money as woggin had said on the HKS gasket as there is no need for it unless your gonna work the block and head

ACL use Jap made gasket anyway for the 7M.
Made by Ishino using the STONE brand name.

i used a ACL one on my 7MGTE recomended to me by my cyl head guy whos seen his fair share of gaskets.
No sign of blowing been there 20,000ks at 10psi boost, arp studs too. 85ftlbs
make sure you put the time into cleaning the deck up. it may be boring and take a couple hours but you dont want to be in there in 3 months doing it all over again lol.
    good luck.

the only reason heads went chronic in 7M's was wrong torque settings from factory

    gasket etc were all fine

ive done one with new toyota head bolts and genuine gasket, head was faced (ie true), block was just cleaned up by hand. over a year and a half ago and still running today (burning oil now i'm told but that was due to other things ). observe running in period and it'll be apples!

I just purchased a gasket set on ebay from the UK and it was $75 including delivery. Delivery took 7 or 8 days. It looks better than the gasket that was in the car. Only issue was that it was advertised for both Supra & Cressida but the circular seal that fits between the muffler pipe and the end of the exhaust manifold was for the supra turbo. As I'm not breaking that point it does not matter. The rest of the kit includes valve seals and cam oil seals. $75 is a good price.

acl montorque (also toyota genuine) are great gaskets and ive never had a problem with them.

JIS on the other hand are absolute POO!!! i put one in my daily, and knew it was going to be an issue when i put it in, but needed the car runnning.... now 6 months later its just starting to show signs of letting go. ill give it a retorque and if it doesnt come good will replace it with a monotorque.

This uses the same head gasket as ACL sell for the 7M under the monotorque brand.

Here is my ebay link. The store deals in gaskets.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...m=110167474126. Open the link then look at the store

The kit has most gaskets, valve seals, oil seals etc although I also purchased from Toyota gaskets for (1) idle speed control valve (2) cold start injector (3) throttle body (4) a gasket on the thermostat housing. These were not all in an ACL kit I purchased before but were about 12 to 15 dollars for everything from Toyota. Also, if you are lucky you might not need the extra gaskets I purchased. I only removed the isc, throttle body and cold injector to make it easier to get to all the hoses etc although if you are double-jointed you can leave these parts on without breaking the gaskets.

..well.. had some bad news today... maybe you guys can help.. just got back from the mechanic and he's got the head off and saying the valves need re-grinding or replacing and the seats as well.. so what was looking like a simple head gasket change for about $800 is now looking like $2500!+.. has any1 got any ideas on getting valves/seats a bit cheaper or know of someone in melbourne who's good with 7MGE's and won't charge like a wounded bull if i can source the parts a bit cheaper?.. would greatly appreciate any expertise you guys can offer.. cheers

Some of the cylinder head service shops do a fully serviced change over head for about $600.
