    Default RT118 Corona Calipers

    Hey All,

Am half way through putting some slotted rotors onto my RT118, the old calipers on it have seized and they wont seperate to put new pads in. Being 34 years old i really cant rely on them. They are the sumitomo ones. I went to my spares wagon which has the Girlock caliper on it. They look like they mount the same. Either way they are seized also. So i am getting new ones. Just wondering what would be a better caliper. The Sumitomo or the Girlock? and are these interchangable between the cars.

    Cheers Guys.

Sumitomo as they are a 2 piston caliper not single like the Girlock ones.If they are seized then pull them apart and give them a good clean not a hard job at all.
    Cheers Brett.

Older Hilux calipers bolt straight on to RT104-RT118 upgrading you to 4 spot calipers. Only modification i had to do was cut the backing plate a little to fit around the caliper.

I knew you ask that question. Sorry I can't remember.
Try RN46 they used the same caliper for many years. As far as i can rememebr.
Go to the wreckes and look at a few older hilux's even take your caliper with you to compare.

First lot of caliper pics it's the one on the right

Pretty sure they used the same caliper for many years. It was about 15 years ago when i fitted those to my rt104.

have just purchased some LN106 calipers. same ones listed on that link. Do i need to do anything apart from cutting backing plate? no master cylinder upgrade? that link doesnt really tell me whether i do or not. as i am going from the sumitomo 2 spots to the 4spots where as most in that link are going a complete different way.

I only showed you that link for a picture of the caliper thats all. I never up graded the master cylinder. I've just started collecting parts to building another Grumpy RT104 and this time i probably will upgrade the master cylinder. It all comes down to a little R&D. Not many people have played with RT series Coronas..

I still have a RT118 Corona at home with 4 spot hilux calipers on them and would love to take picture for you but i'm currently living in Dubai for another 5 months. Sorry i can't be more help.

Thats cool, i researched and most people have indicated the LN106's are the ones to go. I wouldnt have brought them otherwise.

Will let you know what happens.

    Cheers. Thanks for the help
