hey just wandering if anyone has stripped down an alloy 4pot st205 caliper and seen if it's at all possible (or done it) to skim the join faces so they can be fitted to thinner disks?
cheers

How much narrower are you going?

wouldn't spacer plates cause it to squeel?
i don't think a 315x32 (12.4") disk is going to fit under 15" rims. so something more suitable would be 275x25 which seems to be a common disk size. 7mm is quite a drop though. im not sure how the calipers are sealed together without splitting them apart.. whether or not trimming the mating faces will affect the fluid line.

205's run a 16" rim factory so if you are using the same diameter rotor (315mm) your going to be in struggle town with a 15" rim.
cheers guys
disk size doesn't need to be overly huge considering the weight of the car and intended purpose.. is going into a ke25 also as a steet/weekend car with the occasional track/gymkhana/drag day. didn't want massive disk width to keep unsprung weight down. hence narrowing of calipers to fit thinner disk. 25-28mm absolute max width.
im using ae86 struts. disk bolts to the back of hub and i'd like to keep it that way for best rwd wheel offset using 15" rims. so looking at getting custom centers made for a race style floating disk giving me better options for bolt on disk sizes. please tell me if im going wrong way about it. picked up these st205 bits recently so thought i'd do my best to make use of em.

Just split one in half and have a look.most likely one face will be flat and one face will have a recess around the fluid gallery to take an o ring.In which case you should be able to mill some off the flat side.

Hey Mark, may be interested in some sort of deal on those calipers. I've got a set of MR2 calipers and rotors stashed away somewhere. The 205 stuff may be a better option than my Altezza calipers depending on mounts etc and will fit my discs (298x32mm I think).

i'll keep ya in mindfor me, its these or wilwood dynalites... so um yeah these are in my possession already.
mr2 or altezza calipers aren't alloy are they?
i have st185 calipers here which i'd imagine pretty similar to mr2 yah?

AL510 is quite correct, one side is flat the other is recessed for the oring, ive got a 205 caliper at home that is broken in two if you want any pics or info!

Mark,
you may want to read this before doing any caliper mods.

cheers thino. are you able to see if there would be any structural weaking of the caliper if it were to be thinned down at the mating faces? the oring groove can always be remachined back in
auto351 thanks for the link. seems like some sensible rules there. although auckland is not a state of australia so different rules apply over here. but cheers
