ive heard a bit about "high flowing" if you go that route then the inlet piping, the rear housings the manifolds the front housings all hold you back.

back pressure is a determining factor in making big power SPECIALLY on pump fuel as the heat left in the chambers can cause premature detonation, go for a big single with big exhaust housing

save your money for the cost of getting a pair high flowed it would cost bugger all more to buy a GT35 and then your only at the beginning of your development not the end. forget all your other bits and pieces just make sure you have a GOOD fuel pump and reg and run fat mixtures

i made 334rwkw on a near stock 1j it has some very mild cams. that was on 100L and using aftermarket ECU, best of all it makes 18psi and 200rwkw at under 4500rpm monsta torque!! verry streetable.

close to this power should be doable on pump fuel

my combo is - GT35 ($1675 new from race spec), FMIC ($199 Just jap), headder manifold ($440 ebay) only 3" exhaust and 550cc US injectors

Yeah my first port of call if going the hi-flow route was to replace the stock inlet piping. Have all of the alloy piping here to make up a set that flow 3"->2.5" turbo 2.5"-> 3" But i think i'll hold off.

Just read in the a Drift mag (yes lame i know but i was board at lunch...) that they are dropping a 1j into a silva (WHY??? WHY????) and then mating up a pair of KKK030 turbos. they claim that they will ace the 280 RWKW's that they're seeking and the turbs are under 1600. sounds like i might have to get the next issue! And do some research on turbo sizing. looks like i'm gonna go new twins...

Aiming to DIY it tho. just need to find some nice mid size turbos for the right price. What are the GTR Turbs like? are they the T28's?

GTR turbos are very impressive, my cousin has the R32 GTR and is making 400awhp on pretty much stock everything but cooler and exhaust, and more boost.

however it is said that the rb26dett is a direct rival to toyotas own 2JZGTTE...

gtr's do have t28 turbos, dont know how much they flow stock gtr not much good for anything over about 270kw with std turbos, i thought thats why they all looking for the N1 spec or upgrades and the like

personally ive done a couple of twin conversion/upgrades and its just twice the work!! all the extra plumbing, water oil exhaust inlet splitters colectors flange adaptors etc etc. makes it a big job but the benifits of power flexibility are there for twins

but i do think ball bearing singles might be just as good these days

2JZ-GTE you mean? ...and believe it or not, on paper the 1JZ-GTE is a much closer competitor to the RB26 DETT. (tests were done in stock form, and the 1JZ had pro's and con's over and under the RB26.

Todd, why is it, whatever i say, you have to correct...? seriously dude, its getting kinda old

The RB20 cant be compared to the 1G, because no one wants to waste the time, because they're both ghey.

the rb25 is the 1J's competitor, and the rb26 is the 2J's competitor

Haha i corrected you before someone else did. no harm.

stock for stock the 1JZ trounces RB25, so its often compared to the RB26.
Dont take my word for it, have a little search around on google.

There was even a article in HPI but i know of most peoples opinion of such magazines so ill keep that one to myself.

I've got that article, it was a fairly objective look at comparing the two engines. I can't see anything wrong with it. Would be more interesting to see the difference with an RB25 Neo, but I still can't see it matching the vvti 1JZ.

Sure they can, the RB20 is massive and makes no more power. You can talk the talk Eldar...when you can walk the walk

    heya,

i doubt you will find info on andy's supra on the net.

but both him and jamie (jt racing fame) have had no problems at all making well over 300kw on unopened motors.

both with single turbos, and having driven the navara i can say there is no waiting for the power to turn up with a single (and having driven with andy i can confirm he is stupid!! oops i mean his car is ).

as far as the factory twins go, i have seen a 1j with factory twins make 265kw at 13psi.
it did have everything else - very large (and quality) front mount, custom plenum, twin dumps, Autronic and alot of time put in to get it all right.

but for the cost of this, you could do as was suggested above and fit the single, and have more head room should you desire it. the car with the twin was already a weapon (being a ra28 celica) and does not need more power (can you ever have enough???).

all these motors run pump fuel.

    Cheers
    Stew

If you say an RB20 is ghey you better take a ride in that black silvia that was at that house you were admiring. 360rwhp is nothing to sneeze at... Also on an unopened engine.
