if you are going to do it, surely it wont hurt while the head is off to re-seat the valves and get the stem seals done as this may cause a bit of smokeyness on start up as well.
THICKER OIL witzl
give it a go before pulling the motor out, may save urself a lot of grief & cash
it will both leak and burn less if its thicker.
is it a multivalve head? if not go nice and thick, HPR 60 or 70 even. multivalves dont like much over 30 or 40 weight

Wish I had a F#%ken awesome toyota.. saving for the goodness now.... stay tuned....
its a 7afe... as mentioned in the thread title.
7afe = 1.8L 16 valve 4 cylinder engine
Thicker oil is no good - have you not read the amount it currently consumes??
(besides, ive tried).
Eeeeeeeeyan - time is of the essence. I only have one car, this car, and i need it to get to work. Therefore headwork is out of the question.
...... butt scratcher?!
fair enough but if after you do this there is still a smokey blue puff for a few minutes when starting i'll bet its valve stem seals.

i wouldnt have considered 1lt/2000km tooo bad. bad yeah but not super bad. im surprised it didnt work.... what oil was it?
but yeah if that doesnt/didnt fix it, dunny brush & new rings should be a good fix and cost bugger all.
+1 for changing valve stem seals tho if it NEEDS to be going as you say it does you would be kicking yourself if its still smokey with new rings. you should get them in the gasket kit so it wont cost you anything maybe just an hour or so more work. if you have a second pair of hands they could be doing this while you re-ring the pistons for example.

The difference between high and low on the 7AFE dipstick is about 1L....so basically something that shouldn't happen over a 10,000km distance (the factory recommended oil-change distance) is happening in 2,000km, so at least 5-times faster. That's bad.
Any more than about 1.5L burned will start triggering the low-pressure sensor too on corners/roundabouts etc.

plenty of older cars need their oil topped up every couple of weeks....
couple of weeks -1000-2000 km's
top up -half to full litre
sure, ud know it was a problem but could always be worse

i am a little uneasy with replacing valve stem seals myself, as i dont have the tools for that.
Besides, there is no smoke on startup, no smoke after hard decell.... so its not valve stems.
...... butt scratcher?!
fair enough good luck with the rings mate.
