Default Koni purchase - Local or Oversees?

    Hey All...

Just wanted to check with anybody with experience in this... I'm looking at replacing my shocks with Koni's... I got a local quote and I know how much I can purchase them oversees....

Locally, I'll be looking at $1100 + GST.

If I purchase these oversees, I'll be looking at $800 (including freight to my door)

Are there any negatives in purchasing the shocks oversees? IE: Warranty, issues, etc?
Purchasing it oversees, will save me about $400... that is worth considering.

    Thanks in advance...

    MIKE.

if it is 800 including freight, you will avoid duty/GST..

does the OS seller offer a warranty or are they a drop-shipper?
would you really bother sending a shock back OS at your cost if there was a warranty problem? probably not basically, for heavy things, assume there is no warranty (without you covering postage both ways).

that $400 could go to replacing a dud shock if you are unlucky enough to get one...

i've just purchased a pair of shock from OS. $280AUD to my door as opposed to $450-500 locally.

most places would only cover faulty manufacturing under warranty anyway. so if you happen to get a dud (very unlikely unless murphy has something to say about it) you have to front the shipping back to the place of purchase and then wait for a new shock to be returned.

but in that time, you could just order another and have it shipped and still be under the cost of buying locally.

Anybody got a good experience to report on an OS supplier?

I bought a set of 4 koni's from the US (Twosrus).
1 of the gland nuts were wrong.
Supplier was very apologetic and had another nut at my door within a week.

What the hell is wrong with this country? I am having a bit of a hiatus for a few years spending money on cars while I get the house mortgage settled. In the interum I buy and modify old retro video game consoles then re-sell for a bit of pocket money. The story is the same there too, I can buy and ship for much much cheaper than I can here.

It's what the market will pay. Australian sugar is cheaper overseas than here. Several years ago there was an issue with Australian made Dunlop tyres being sold cheaper in the US than here. We Australians pay enormous amounts for just about every product.

    Hi,

i actually got the shits of looking through suppliers online and just got mine through ebay. When i talked to my mechanic/mate and told him the price i was getting them at he said he wouldn't even bother checking prices, just get them. I got sw20 rear kyb agx delivered for around the $300 mark. Haven't had any problems and they took about a week to get here.

edit! also paid by paypal through ebay so was covered just incase!
