I just got myself an SC14 supercharger for the 4AGZE. I want to replace the bearings and have got the whole thing apart, but am stuck at the actual removal of the bearings.
I tried knocking them out, but being roller bearings rather than ball bearings, the center piece just came out by itself.
Does anyone have any recommendations as to where in south Brisbane I could get the two bearings pulled? It needs some sort of inside puller that can get through the middle of the bearing, grip onto the underside, and pull it straight out.
Thanks.

Sweet. Dude allows pickup and it's on my way home from work. I'll just buy that.![]()
Don't just try to press them out, they are epoxied in and you need to heat the epoxy to loosen them.

Yep. I got the bearing out. I'll be leaving the other in until I can be sure of getting a replacement.
(I got a pretty much confirmed source in Japan from NSK bearings themselves, just gotta get a price.... ^_^" )
One bearing puller and a heat gun later and it slid out nicely.

Oh, would anyone be interested in a set of these two bearings? With the puller it's dead easy to pull out. It'll probably make the price per unit cheaper too.
Once my SC12 is out, I'll be able to confirm fitment of these bearings to the SC12 too.
Unless things have changed in the years since I was playing with them, you might want to confirm that you can get the bearings. I couldn't find anything when I was looking..
From my records for the SC12:
The lower bearing is
Koyo 03NU0518-14 or
NSK U17-1
45mm diameter
18mm thick, and
17mm bore
The upper bearing is
Koyo 03NU0514-7 or
NSK U17-2
45mm diamater
14mm thick, and
17mm bore

Yea, I've been informed that all those bearings (Same for the SC14) are no longer in production, unless I want to buy a few hundred of them.... Group buy anyone...
I'll use those numbers to advance my search though, thanks for that.
I've sent off emails to Ogura themselves, and I'll be heading to a blower specialist (once I find one) to see what substitutes would be able to be used. I can get the seals and rear bearings no worries (About $47 per rear bearing, $5 per seal), but the front bnearings are proving somewhat elusive...
Anyone got any old/stuffed SC superchargers they don't want that they can send me?I'm building an awesome tech article, that will include the procedure for replacing the rear seals and bearings as well as fitting the SC14 charger to a FWD Corolla. This bearing issue is sort of holding up the works a little....
Another way to get bearings out is to place the housing on 2 blocks (metal of some kind) on a baking tray and place in a preheated oven (150 degrees celcius) let the housing heat up evenly the bearings should drop strait out at about 100-150 degrees celcius, benifit of heating the housing this way is it heats the housing evenly and prevents fractures, cracking or warping, because the alloy expands slowly rather than a sudden increase and hot spot.
but it expands quicker than the steel caged bearing causing them to drop out dammage free
clean bearing surfaces in the housing with scotchbrite pad
clean with wax and grease remover then apply loktite primer to bearing surfaces and bearings,
allow primer to evaporate off both the housing and the bearings
and when fitting the bearings, heat the housing the same way, put the bearings in zip lock bags and put them in the freezer, allow bearings to cool for 2 hours and the housing to heat for 1 hour ( preheat oven to 120-150 degrees celcius first), carefully remove housing from oven, sit on bench and get bearings from the freezer, apply light coat of loktite bearing retainer compound (green in colour) to the housing only, bearings should drop strait in and allow to sit and return to room temp, then continue with the rest of the assemblythis will ensure a properly seated bearing that wont float or move and avoid any majour dammage to the housing

Awesome idea with the oven. I'll do that in the future.
I'll be freezing the bearings (I used to rebuild pumps, so I know some of the tricks) etc, I thought of the Loctite bearing retainer, but if I find the original bearings with the grooves, I'll probably just use some epoxy like the original installation. I'll be using it for sure if the new bearings don't have the grooves though.
Will heating to 150C be safe for the other parts of the SC?
The supercharger will be dismantled first. It will be just the bearings and the respective alloy housing being heated up.
If you cannot get the other bearing what about either machining down a slightly larger bearings outer race, machining the housing, or even having a machine shop create a sleeve so you can run a smaller bearing?

That's what I'm thinking. Problem is finding a sealed cylindrical roller bearing rated to 10000 - 11000 RPM.
Any ideas?![]()
what about toyota oem?
