I know this is dragging up an ooooold thread, but I'm in the situation you were at the moment.
Are you able to remember what wires you swapped around and where they went etc?
Did you make any diagrams of how you did it?
Cheers, Matt
Recently I've been doing the old 4AGE into a KE70 Panel Van, and went looking for a KE70 or AE71 "tacho dash" (think they were SX models). All the information i could find said that it would be a direct swap... Australian AE71 and KE70 dash's are exactly the same, that's for wagons and sedans, but Panel Vans are WAY different, being more of a jap model i guess (anyone know a bit more on that??)
Anyway, what i ended up doing was just following and marking each of the wires on each dash and swapping the wires over in the plugs to the correct place. All works fine.
Hope this helps the few people that have found KE70 panel vans and want a flash dash!
Cheers
Glen.

Any luck..
I meant to say i've still got the 4A-C but the wiring shouldn't be all that different..

I've got a few diagrams, but here's a table for starters that might help, each dash with wire colours. Aus is KE70 std, JAP is pan van, plug yours in first to check that it doesn't work also!
Use AUS JAP
1st plug
Charge 1 BO Y
Charge 2 Y BO+
Oil YB YB
Ig+ RL RL
Brake RW RW
Fuel Lt YL YL
Ig - B ?
2nd plug
Dash + G G
Dash - G B
LH GB GB
RH GY GY
Fuel G YR YR
Temp G YL YL
3rd Plug
Earth WB WB
Beam Lt RL RG
B+ RG RG
Acc PB PL
I've got these from comparing the circuits on the back of the dashes, as well as repair manuals. If i get a chance, i'll draw up the plug pics too, will have to just describe them for now. (looking at the open end of the loom plug - i think...) Each dash has the plugs in different places too, will only fit in one spot though due to the " | " in the plug.
AUS dash
Plug on left - charge, charge, oil | Ig+, Brake, Park Br, Fuel Lt, Ig-
Centre plug - Dash+, Dash-, LH, RH, Fuel- | mt, Temp, mt
Right Plug - Earth, mt, mt, mt | mt, Beam lt, B+, Acc
JAP dash
Left Plug - Fuel lt, mt, mt | Charge, Charge, Park, Brake, Oil
Centre Plug - Fuel F, mt, LH, RH, Earth | Beam, mt, mt
Right Plug - B+ clock, Acc, Dash lt, Dash lt | Fuel Gauge+, Temp, Fuel?, mt
This is working so far on mine, hasn't been thoroughly road tested yet, you'll have to do a bit of mucking around to make sure all is good, let me know if you find any mistakes
See how you go!

Awesome, I'll give that a go.
I've plugged mine in and the car won't even start when it is, so hopefully this will fix that
Cheers mate

OK...
I've been trying it today and I got 95% of the way. All the lights bar the charge light (and fuel, as I still have some) are coming on properly, and the tacho is getting a signal and moving.
Funny thing is, I seem to have ended up with two superfluous wires, a WHITE BLACK and a BLACK.... so I don't know how I've managed that...
Also, I can start the car, but when I turn it off, I have to pull the negative off the battery and unplug the dash then plug it all back together to start it again.... I'm confused.
I'm not sure which way the two charge ones go, but i'm experimenting

How is it going?
I'd say that those two wires, BW and B will be earths.
Don't know about the restarting thing?? Like you said, a bit of experimenting might fix things up! That;s how i got mine going.
Good luck!
Glen.

Well, it's going as of last weekend, works almost perfectly, although the tripmeter seems to be working VERY slowly now... Any ideas?
I've written up a nice guide using your information and I'll attach it.
I ended up just putting the spare WHITE BLACK wire in an empty hole, and I found where the other BLACK one went
Cheers, Matt

Hey, write up looks awesome mate! Good work, should get a few more pan vans looking schmik. Mine is getting rust cut at the moment, then off for exhaust and 4AGE tune.
Might have to check speedo cable, that going slow too?

Nah, speedo and odo are ticking along fine, just the trip meter.. the white number moves a poofteenth every K or so, at the moment it's sitting on 0009 and i've probably driven 5K's or so... it's confusing

White black seems to be ALWAYS earth on toyotas.
As for the trip meter going slow, if everything else on the speedo works fine, then its an internal problem... probably a plastic gear broken.

Yeah it's weird, I checked all the plastic bits when I had it apart... I might have to pull it apart yet again as it's stuck on 0009 now...

Hey mate,
Could you please email me your conversion pdf & any other info you have? I can't download it.
I'm trying to do the conversion & would rather have details before I attempt it myself.
Thanks heaps,
Bourkey
