today out of total curiosity, i had a look at the transfer case for the rwd drive component of the gt4 gearbox i have sitting around, i removed the transfercase and the drive gear , and measuered up in laymans terms what i think needs to be shortened.....

the info i seek at the moment, is without this transfercase attatched and the rwd gear removed , how will the gear box go in terms of working under load? will it be out of balance in some respect...?

Or should i leave it in the mix , with the driveshaft and spline removed and have it simply capped off?

if this thread seems to go backwards and forwards in conversation , and ideas , all reasons are simply budget driven...

after talking to a transmission/gearbox mob in melbourne who say they have done similar things with a skyline gtr box simply for RWD only, they crunch numbers of a $2k quote..

i have an idea and a goal, but im beginning to think im turning into slater from dazed and confused...

Converting your AWD box to FWD is possible, but not worth it.
The front diff within the gearbox needs to be changed for starters, so the box would need to be completely opened & stripped.

Personally, I'd put it back together (good luck with that one BTW), sell it & put the money towards an E153 from a V6 Camry.

Already setup for a FWD with the shifter linkages in the correct place, has the same strength as the AWD box.

If you can source an SW20 MR2 turbo box, that would be the ultimate, as it is the same, but most likely has an LSD. Changing the shifter linkages over is not a big problem.

    These boxes are rare though.
V6 Camries are becoming really common at the wreckers, though being a family car, the majority are autos.

Maybe instead of quoting numbers like E153, just say you're after a manual gearbox from a V6 Camry. Then the less knowledgable person behind the counter still knows what you're talking about.
Just make sure you know where the gearbox number is (I don't know personally) so that they can't fool you with a 4 cylinder S series instead
