its is normal for a 4agte to blow smoke if they are running on a standard 4agze computer, maybe give it time to learn the new setup or reset the ecu
Sorry to dig up this old thread but I got a question for JoJo (or anyone else that knows) in regards to the picture above.
I see you have mounted the oil filter directly onto the block but is it correct that normally there is some sort of adaptor block there?
(On some engines with fittings for an oil cooler right?)
On my engine, a 4agze from an AE101 Levin, i've got a similar adaptor block but without any fittings (like this: http://t1.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:A...4axYBeFrtGyRyw)
My question is;
Can I fit the oil filter directly to the block on my engine as well? And if so, what parts do I need? I think it should be possible by re-using the threaded bit from the adaptor mounting block (the bit where the oil filter screws on) and instead of having it screwed into the adaptor block I have to screw it directly into the engine block.
Am I correct? If not, what would then be the way to go?
Regards.

grab an oil filter union from a 4ac block or similar, take all the parts off the GZE, screw in the 4ac union and put on a normal 4A filter.
