If the Commy has still got the factory Borgy diff then the 9" gears and axles will not go anywhere near fitting as they are near enough twice the size of the Coommy's.
Easiest solution would be get a 9" diff housing to suit Commy.
Cheers Brett.
Hi guys, I just bought the vk commodore off the classified section with the 1uz and r154 in it.It is going to be used as a track car and currently has a 3.08 diff in it.I would like to lower the ratio some and have a couple of sets of 9" gears, a centre and a 28 spline full spool.
What i would like to know is are the 28 spline salisbury axles the same spline as the 28 spline 9" spool.
If this is the case it would make for an easy and cheap conversion.
I know this is a toyota forum but im sure some of you learned people have mucked about with this stuff in the past.
Cheers, Al.

yeah, i know the diff is different i want to know if i can weld a 9 inch housing centre section between the commodore axle tubes and use the commodore axles in the 9 inch centre.if that makes sense?
Yep, I think he is aware of that, What he wants to know, is, Are the axles the same IE will a BW axle fit into a 9' centre.
wont a 9 inch be overkill for a 1uz really besides being a mile to heavy
why not say a v8 vl diff with discs brakes and lsd (or spool if that is your thing) with six cylinder skyline gears 4.11:1 and 3.89:1 or falcon 3.45:1 and 3.23:1 gearsets.
surely this would be adequate and easier.
and not overengineered.
just my two cents

assembly is just the opposite of disassembly - just you swear in different spots!
Thanks for your comments Neil, you are right that the vl stuff would be a lot lighter it was just an idea as i already had the 9 inch stuff laying around.
I have a couple of t25 sr20 turbos going on as well so should make close to 350 hp at the wheels. Do you think the vl diff would be up to that?
Cheers, Al.
Vl diff will be up for 350hp at the wheels no trouble.
My brother run about 450rwhp for about 5 years with his.
The only advantage would be ratio choices
