what turbo are you running? what eng specs??

upgrading to those cams would be pointless unless you have other significant eng mods.

yes mate... i have hi flow turbo, tuned manafold and dumppipe, bigger pump, rebuilt with forged pistons and metal gasket, and im running blue emanage, i am aware of the need to do significant engine mods first, but my question still remains?
is emanage blue enough or will the factory ecu handle it?

i've not had personal exp, but a couple guys on the mr2 forum have run 270 cams on stock management with out issues.

some say they won't idle well but i dunno if that just due to the way they've timed them in. so if the stock eng management can handle then i'd say with the help of an emanage it'd be better.

    prob not ideal tho.

depending on the camshaft design, hotter cams will reduce the engine vacuum and the ecu will begin to think the throttle has been cracked and will richen the mixture... how big and how much im not sure...its trial and error and being on toymods i hope this is the place to go,
someone has to have put 272 cams on st185 with factory ecu....

    cmon people...

Might've been done, but might not - as jon pointed out, by the time you've worked the engine enough to make cams worthwhile, you've probably already gone for aftermarket management to make the most of your other bits.

i ran my engine in on the stock ecu with hks 264 cams for the running in period. Idle was a bit poor especially when cold, i wouldnt go running any bigger on the stock ecu, thats just me though.

what size are standard cams on st185?

i thought they were 266 degrees, and if so why are your cams small?

    standard cams on a 185 are 236*

272* is on the large side for a turbo engine, you can make HUUGGEE power on 264's, more than 98% of us will ever get to.

do you really think hks (and other big name companies) would make cams of a smaller duration then whats available from the factory??

stock gen2 3sgte cams which you have are 8.2mm lift and 236 degree duration.

Its a bit irritating how many cam manufacturers dont specify what lift the duration of the cam is measured at. You see some specified at 10 thou of lift others at 20 thou, some at 50 thou etc.

Dunno what lift cams you are looking at Sandman, but shim under bucket/shimless buckets are recommended on Gen 2's with big cams, Gen 3's had shim unders as standard and are a direct replacement to the Gen 2 shim over setup.
