Default 1G-GTE fitting a coil pack or not

Just looking through some 1G wiring diagrams and found the 1G-GZE is fitted with a coil pack so if there is any benefit fitting a coil pack to the 1G-GTE & if so which is the coil pack of choice.

    Gidday

Assume you are considering this with a aftermarket computer. I have blanked off the top of my dissy and using it to drive a LT-8. I am using a EL Falcon coil pack (3 coils with waste spark). Everything works great and has for some time. I have only run a max of 15 psi boiost so cannot comment above that. (I also use a EL tb, tps and idle control valve)

Why the Ford coil pack - they are cheap, readily available and I was advise they would handle the job. Remember if you do use these packs to get the bit of wiring loom with the plug on it.

Having said that I am led to understand that the Toyota coils/coil pack are a great thing especially the 7MGTE ones. I did have a set of these at the time but did worry about sourcing replacements in the future.

No installed on the shift away from the factory computer and to single turbo. I would expect that a well maintained dissy system would have similar performance to coil packs, But at several hundred each for rotor and cap they are a bit expensive tokeep in perfect working order.

    A cheap option.

    No. Built into the computer

The recommendation to use the ford coilpack was from Jake Edwards.
