AFAIK the only problem out of that is the aftermarket ECU. I doubt the different turbo is going to be a problem as you're allowed to fit larger engines, etc.
Can't borrow a factory ECU for it?
Hi,
I'm planning to get my TA22 GT engineered in QLD and wondering how others have gone about this. Its currently registered in SA.
After a couple of calls it seems my issues are the aftermarket ECU on my 3T GTE and the fact I have an aftermarket turbo as well...Seems to be a big issue...Brakes, seats etc don't seem to be a problem.
I know others have this type of set up and wonder how and who you have used to get your car approved and on the road?
Cheers,
Simon

Don't really want to go down the stock ECU path again, it would also mean I'd have to use the air flow meter etc etc.
The microtech would provide far better control than the stock ECU, so trying to understand why its such an issue for QLD. Is this implying that aftermarket computers are only intended for cars to be used off road?
Cheers,
Simon
it is because aftermarket tuners generally don't do as good a job as the factory when it comes to emissions...

Hi mate, they make you use the stock ecu and all other parts of the donor cars control system as that is what the motor was adr'd with. If you dont then in their eyes it doesn't meet the polution requirements.
Having said that we have a blue plate system here and so long as you meet certain requirements, eg you have not done any structural mods and the motor is within the required range for the weight of the car you dont need engineering as such. It is just an inspection and if you get the right bloke your ecu and turbo wont be an issue.
I know a bloke who got a mk 1 corty done with a 13b turbo and microtech and no cats, he had also done a rack and pinion conversion and that wasnt picked up.also the 13b is considered to be 2.6 litre which meant with a turbo he wasnt allowed to do it.it still passed.

Al,
Can you send me this persons contact details?

get mod-plate with a factory ECU, register it then do what you want ECU-wise - is not like they check for it again (unless you get busted by the plod for being an arsehat on the road).
bill its a 3TGTEU ECU bud, fuel only control IIRC.I very much doubt that.
simon its the same here in speed camera state. you can only engineer a car here if the ECU came out in its factory form and was tested, met ADRs AND the entire engine management system incl airbox is setup in the same way it was in the donor car.
unless its a 20v silvertop into a westfield there is some testing thats been done there or a PBR clubman which has a locked Motec which, has also been tested and approved here.
emissions testing used to be done in Altona but, that closed down eleventy billion years ago and now testing costs nothing short of your right nut here.
Victoria - the speed (no they are not for raising revenue) camera state.
A few engineers have approval to operate in other States. Check if you have a SA engineer who is on the Qld list and ask them for a report.
Thanks guys, I'll make some calls tomorrow and see if I find out anything new.
I know its a bit out of the ordinary, but there must be a way to get it passed with the Microtech fitted.....
Cheers,
Simon
put the microtech inside a toyota ECU case - problem solved.
That's what I was going to suggest. Probably don't even need to get one from a 3T-GTE although that would be better if you can find one. It's not as if they're going to open up the ECU and look at what's inside! If it looks like factory engine management is installed, that will be good enough.

Hi,
i got my 1jz engineered about 3 months ago with the microtech lt12s (in an ra28). Guy never asked, never looked, never cared about it being aftermarket ecu. It also has a large single (was twin) aftermarket turbo and he wasn't bothered by that either. It was only if the car originally had that engine that i would have needed a blue plate for the turbo. At the same time he did front brake upgrade, hilux diff, gearbox etc.
The guy that did it was a mobile fella, came to my door so i didn't have to worry about towing or driving illegaly etc. I'll have to dig up his details. It was really hassle free tbh.
