Hey all,
I have an 82 hilux, and the carby is running rich.
I've been through alot to try to get it fixed.
NOW, I've been offered a V6 engine from an 02? Hilux, that has no electrics.
How big a job would it be to do an engine swap like that? What would I need? Is there anyone near Newcastle that would enjoy/put up with helping?
This will be a big job for me, so I really appreciate any feedback/tips/anything.

In case you missed it, I have spent WAY to long on the friken carby. I already had a post dedicated to that, and I still havnt been able to get it going, hence I started this post asking for help with an engine changeover.
Please, anyone with some knowledge wanna give me a hand? (not a dig at you wa5)

You will need at least :
ECU (factory or aftermarket)
Sensors : MAP or AFM, maybe TPS (Throttle Pos'n), Temp., Oil press., etc
A wiring loom (can do it yourself, if you are patient)
engine mounts
Modified plumbing (may be simple)
I don't know the mechanical side (does it bolt up to your gearbox, etc) : someone else has to answer that one.
It's doable, but not a simple job : if you can find a v6 wreck to strip the electrics/ecu/sensors from, that will help a lot.

it will be a very big undertaking. from what you have said, I think you have a bare long motor? no ignition set up, no throttle body? (or perhaps just sensors) and probably no flywheel/ clutch etc.
I don't think it will fit on your gearbox, so you will probably need a new box.
So.
Coil packs
TPS/ ISCV (on throttle body)
Clutch, pressure plate, flywheel, starter motor.
engine mounts, alternator.
Probably some kind of set up to eliminate the power steer and A/C pumps, and a new way to tension the fan belt once these items have been eliminated.
ECU, wiring harness, new fuel lines, High pressure fuel pump (plus alterations to make it work with your fuel tank). an altered sump and pickup...
$2000 - 3000 second hand, at a guess for the stuff you could buy, plus the stuff that has to be altered/ custom made. Oh yeah, a new exhaust system with catalytic converter. not to mention upgraded brakes to meet the engineers conditions of approval. plus a ULP fuel neck (No ... Hilux's probably didn't have them post 86... but the engineer will want you to fit one)... probably forgotten some stuff. . say another $4 -5 grand to have someone do everything necessary and fit it up... could be more. since you don't appear have a great deal of mechanical nouse. and will have to pay for everything...
There are always things you don't take into account, New bigger radiator, a cambelt service on the engine, new water pump... front and rear seals... a new higher ratio diff.
OR. you could go to Allcarb at Sandgate, and talk to them about rebuilding your carb... or fit a new downdraft webber

my apologies for not giving you the proper answer earlier, I just couldn't be bothered writing all this, when I know damn well you wont go through with it...
Also in your carby thread, you ask for a cheap fix.... an engine swap from carb to EFI isn't a cheap fix.
you also say in your carb thread that you are 15, presumably you want this thing as your first car..?
No engine swaps allowed whilst you are on P plates. and no modifications for extra power.... Like fitting a Webber.
Basically this whole reply has been a waste of time...

I went to them and they said it would be $480 minimum, and it is not worth it to me, as It will never be any more than a paddock-basher.
Haha, well i though it would be. Guess I was wrong.
I am 15, but my first car is hopefully going to be a yaris (with the mods), so the Hilux is just a paddock-basher, for our property up near taree. It is running fine (apart from the carby problems), and I have raised it, added mikey thompson ATZ, put a mad cone air filter in it, redone the interior, added a new stereo and a new exhaust system, and many other things, but it is rusty beyond repair, and the amount of bush mechanic repairs I've done to it would take a long time to undo/fix. I am happy enough with it being a badass paddock-basher.
I can fit a webber, but I don't have a clue as to how much it would cost, which ones would work, or where to buy it.

So why bother putting on a mad cone filter, new stereo, ATZ tyres, fitted out the interior and new exhaust, etc... all on a rusted-out paddock-basher? Yet getting a carbie rebuilt to actually make it run properly is not worth it?
An EFI conversion will bleed you dry. And, for a paddock basher it's not good money sense. Just leave the carby as it is and have fun with the car. Save your dollars for when you get your license and you'll need something a little more roadworthy.
