1jz running rich on boost

mates car is running rich... bout to go have a gander this after noon but i know its only running about 12psi boost, standard turbos and and intercooler..

im gunna go strate in and check the o2 sensor just wondering if people have had problems with the map sensor or coolant temp sensors on the 1jz causing the car to run rich enough the blow black smoke on boost?..

Check for Intercooler pipe leaks.

Maybe a problem with the ECU as the 1jz ECU's were problematic.

yeh i was thinking that.. i was gunna check the o2 sensor first as i know what voltages to check for but i thort id ask if people have had problem with the map sensors or coolant temp sensors..

but yeh i think were both on the money.. o2 sensor or fucked ecu

solution - more boost to use that extra fuel thats being put in

this should'nt be a problem being map instead of afm unless its vvti.

...It isnt a problem. you can drive the car without any cooler piping and although you wont have any power, the car will drive fine. ive done it several times. :S

Never heard of a dodgey map or temp sensor on a 1JZ... if its running really rich id simply disconnect the o2 sensor (temporarily, running the car with an unpowered o2 sensor will kill it (the sensor) very quickly) ...if its still running really rich id pull the ECU and check the caps.

make sure the engine idles and revs cleanly, the ecu isnt throwing codes and also check hes not running any piggybacks or FCD's...
