I have a 2T currently in my TA23. What other engines would bolt straight in or only need minor modifiations?
Cheers.

A twincarb 2TG would bolt in very easily and give you a much more enjoyable experience.
An EFI 2TGEU would bolt straight in, and with some basic wiring would be quite reliable, and with a turbo would be quite quick.
If you swap to an RA23 xmember the same applies, but with the equivelant 2ltr motor - the 18RG.
Hi,
Won't you need a bell housing to match an 18R-G to the T50 box? I'm assuming it's a manual and I think the TA23 ran the T50 box.

Lol. I'm 30 so way beyond any consent concerns! Looking at either the 2TG or the EFI 2TGEU for what I use the car for. Used to have a fully worked Datsun 1600 with CA18DET so keen to keep it basic and cheap this time round. Where is the best place to pick either of these two up?
Seen a few on ebay recently but can be hard to find sometimes.
Hi,
If you go the fuel injected (2T-GEU) then you will need to add extra expense to put in the fuel pumps. Also, you will have to use the old ECU for the 2T-GUE, which often are not sold with the engine (along with the loom etc) - which means extra cost in trying to get one of these rare old ECUs (and loom) or spend more money and put in a new ECU. The original ECU was designed more for economy rather than performance and it does not compare with the latest ECU technology.
So, the cheapest and easiest install is to get a 2T-G.. the original carbie version. It will bolt straight in, though you may have to tweak about with the throttle cable to match the carbies and also put in a choke (no auto choke on the 2T-G). The 2T-G was the most powerful of the factory stock 2T-G engines, and they are a wonderful engine and the induction noise of those 4-pots sucking in air sounds horn - and mate up some nice extractors and exhaust system and you'll have a nimble, great sound ing and heaps fun car.

thanks so much for your input river. sounds perfect to me. now to track down a decent 2TG!
few and far between - you may be lucky. have a chat with sillycar chick bud she is up your way and might be able to point you in the right direction? 2TG = good motor. auto's are OK i put a 100kw 4AGE alongside one in an ae92 and it hammered just fine,
i know where there is a 3t/2tg hybrid sitting just needs carbs. and i think dana(sillicar chick) might still be selling those.(came off this motor)
Looking for a new toy. If you have something 18r powered let me know.

so this one would just bolt straight in? what's the go with the 3t element?
its a 1.8 litre bottom end with a 2tg head, in danas 72 celica it did a low 15 sec quarter.
