    Default 1ggte turbo advice

    Hello,

i'm after changing my 1ggte to a single.

ive got a HKS single manifold and Turbosmart wastegate, just need to decide on the turbo.

i'm wanting about 250 rwkw running at 1bar.
but i dont want the boost right at the top, i'm aiming for full boost about 3500-3800rpm

what do people suggest i go for? i was looking at a GT3071R?

    Stock cams/ecu?
To give you an indicaiton, my 1g with gt28rs .82 rear = 230rwkw at 18psi, full boost by your desired rpm. This is with an autronic sm4 and 1gfe cams.
The 3071R with a .64 rear probably would net near 250rwkw at around 1 bar but will be "laggy", that term is relative to the owners interpretation.

hey mate just bought a 3071 off In05nt with a small rear housing .48, ill be whackin that on the 1 g within next few weeks, ill let u know.

I believe it was getting around 220rwkw at 13 psi - but comes on hard and early with the small rear housing.

From what i gather the .64 rear housing will be slightly laggy but more suitable for 250rwkw, probably at the expense of 1 and 6, hopefully you have rebuilt for reliabilty aiming at those figures.

might be best to look at the dyno results page and see what theyre getting with what turbo.

    Hope it helps cheers Rosie.

What other mods have you done? I've got a KKR380 on mine, and I'm *hoping* for 200rwkw at 14psi, 250 is a big ask on a small motor without too much lag...why are you limited to 14psi? You'd be better off with a smaller turbo and more boost, to my mind. Pick your power figure, and get the most turbo that will make that power in the peak of its efficiency range.

    Thanks for the replies guys.

currently i have the boost turned up on the standards to 14psi.
    full 3" stainless exhaust,
    Large FMIC,
Link ECU to run it all,
550cc injectors, with direct ignitors rather than dizzy and leads.
and a set of the adjustable cam gears on.

not wanting to go above 1bar/14psi for safety really, try to make it more reliable in the long term.

What's the basis for the 250kw? That's a pretty serious amount of power for a stock 1G, and keeping it at 1bar isn't going to guarantee reliability, especially at that power level. The engine will still be seeing a very similar amount of stress...

well 250 is a very rough 400bhp at fly.

whats the way forward people suggest then? the 1G is completely unheard of in the uk so not many people to ask.

I'm with Robin, I'd be aiming for a smaller turbo, with slightly higher boost in the meat of its efficiency. Outright power is one thing, but having power everywhere is awesome.

    Hi Sparky,

Have a look at a few threads on here.

Emp had a 1GGTE KExx corolla with a 1G that made some pretty great numbers. I don't know the information well, but think it was around the power figure you are chasing, and to my knowledge it was running stock internals, with aftermarket ECU, custom intake manifold/intercooler, a y-pipe with an ebay T70 turbo. I suspect he had a few bottom end failures during development, and probably a few other mods too. It's in the members rides thread with the new owner called Trent.

Then there is a stack of information from Kyle '6BOOST' about his 1G experiences, but they are mainly based on modified/developed engines.

Kedderz has some info in his members rides, as does Blake (INOCNT i think is his name).
    Current rides...

I run a 3082R on mine with a .63 rear, it makes full boost around 4500-5000rpm from memory.
If you run under 20psi it should be reliable, i run 20-22psi to make 250kw, i only have probs with the head gaskets after about a year of abuse letting go

Stomps was running a 1G with a Y pipe CT26 and an apexi afc and was getting good horsepower and not alot of lag.

Im currently converting my 1G to single turbo and am probably gona go a CT26.
Where did u get your HKS manifold? do any companies in the UK still sell them. Bloody imposible to get over here.

good luck with 250rwkw on 1bar
you will need alot of other work done to achieve that kind of power at such a low boost level
3071 would be a good start either way tho

What makes you feel that 250kw is needed? If that's where you want it, as a reliable, driveable streeter without spending massive money, I'd probably go for a 1J or even a 2J...
