    Default St162 Brake upgrade Suggestions

I own a 89' St162 Whitelightning sx and have stocko brakes. Im looking to upgrade to bigger vented rotors as well as finding a set of twin pot calipers. This is only for front brakes. Any suggestions that'll fit directly on?

Hey ajansen, the most common upgrade is to go for the GT4 twin pot calipers. From memory there were single and twin. I'd be suggesting the twins. You'd just need the suitable rotors to suit as well. If your buying new rotors you will make good use of slotted or/and cross drilled for extra braking.

The other options are some brembo 4 pots or 6 but then you will be paying a lot more and not to mention the minimum required wheel size to fit them on.

Best of luck and welcome to Toymods

ST185 single and twin piston calipers and rotors will fit right up, with the only modification needed being to bend/cut the stone guards a bit to accomodate the bigger rotors.

I'm running twin piston caldina ST215 brakes on mine with ST185 rotors, they required custom lines to be made up as the strut - caliper half of the standard lines was a touch too short. I'm pretty sure these calipers are the same as ST202 and ST185 twin piston jobbies.

There should be plenty more info out there if you try searching

Easiest solution is st185 or st165 as the parts are interchangeable, stick the calipers and rotors on and away you go. If you go for an st20x caliper you can do one of two things, machine down the diameter of a st185 disc to suit, or create a spacer to locate the disc on the hub. The st20x discs have a different spigot to the st16x and st18x models, I would recommend machining down the 185 discs if going this way.

And if you really want to you could steal the booster from an st20x as well although it's not really needed.

the single pot gt4 brakes are suppose to be the best on the 185. there is big debate on this though, my advice is to take whateva gt4 brakes u can find, single or twin, either way its over kill for ur little light beast

the braking surface is supposed to be greater on the single pots. however i have twin pots on my 162 and it pulls up plenty fast enough.

just a question with the ST162 rear brakes..

a mate currently runs the twin pot ST185 brakes, with the silly ST drums on the back still..

he used the rotor and caliper only on the front, had them redrilled to 4x100.. now he wants to keep the 4x100 wheels..

thinking the rear hub/uprights from an AE82 twincam/AE92 sx might be the way to go?? thoughts?

just got the new calipers cleaned up and painted. Tried putting in the brake pads and can't work out how to put them in with the springs on the inside. Also the gap inbetween is also not enough to fit the rotors into so is their a way so adjust the gap with the calipers
