Default Recommended wire for harness rewire ???

    Hi

I was wondering what the recommended

1/ size ( ie 7.5 mm for the smaller and ?? for the larger wires)
    2 / amperage ( 10 amp ?? less or more ??)
3 / grade of wiring ( Low tension ,ie general purpose or better ???)

that should be used to lenghten a standard wiring loom for a FWD to suit a RWD configuration.
I am about to do this with my wiring loom and then solder and heat shrink all joints.

    Cheers

nowadays thin vire is used, ie minimum current spec to save money.
however, maybe 5A wire for non loads, and for loaded wires, exceed expected current by 50%? overkill is good, fried wires are bad.

as for what type, if it is in engine bay, the insulation must be rated for heat.
you can get lengths of different coloured wire from a few places relatively cheaply... there was a rewing mob in Vic whose name i can't remember atm, they quoted something like $1-1.50/m for whatever colours.... (iirc )

Generally try to use the same size wire that the orriginal harness is using or the next size up. 3mm, 4mm and 6mm automotive cable will do the job. Finding it in the right colours might be a bit tough though.

Are you thinking of Classic Wiring Looms. They sell all sorts of wire and loom tape and can also modify your harness for you to your specs. Very helpful guys.

fwiw, i (foolishly) made my looms (ECU to relay/distribution box and then from there out to various engien bits) from several lengths of 8-wire trailer loom - apart from the VR sensor (crank trigger) which used dual-core shielded cable.

Easy to do because it's flexible and colour coded, difficult because it's pretty big when bring it all together. From engine to relay/distribution it made things a bit neater as i didn't have to coil-wrap 16 loose wires, just 2 trailer loom cables.

It is cheap and capable of handling high current loads.

hrmz... i relised that my 20v has 3 sizes of wiring for the efi stuff

    basically:
    1) 15amp wire for power coming from the ignition switch
    2) 10amp wire for wires from the ecu to the sensors
    3) and a size inbetween for the engine ground

I try to use the similar size wire becuase i assummed it was the optimum size for its purpose?

    old corrola... bigger is better/safer?

im doubting some of the work ive done... can stand up to the task
