Finally made a decent gallery for my server, so here's the link to the Winton 6 Hour folder for some extra images:

    Winton 6 Hour Gallery

Just click on the folder of the driver you want to see images of. eg. Adam, etc. You can also view the full res version (most are 3888 x 2592) of a pic by opening it and using the "Actual Size" button on the menu bar down the bottom.

I haven't uploaded all 833 images, just some of the better ones from the collection. (Some may still be uploading.)

So, if they had an issue with it then why didn't they insist on it being removed?

I never knew of that rule though. Pity. I was pretty proud of how they came out... and they will look shit in any other colours other than red and white.

Most events have issues with red lights on the front of a car... allegedly it could confuse someone if the car was spinning and the headlights were on....... or some shit like that.

Sometimes these blokes who help AROCA (and Winton) get a little carried away with their importance, every year I send Neil Choi an email about my concerns with them, this year they were pretty good, but got bogged down on the whole windscreen banner thing, they tried to knock back 3 or of our 4 cars because of windscreen stickers.

A couple of our cars got through the scrutes on Saturday with the banners on the bonnets, only to be told (once the cars had been spotted on the track) that they'd not be allowed to run Sunday unless the banners were moved to the windscreens which on small cars like the celicas impedes the driver's vision somewhat. In the end we cut and curved them to keep them out of the drivers field of view.

Apprently Neil Choi went and spoke to the Scrutineers some time Saturday about the windscreen banners, hence the change of 'policy'. In the end they ran out of them, and many of them finished up out on the track because they come off with the wind and rain.

It's a tough balance as without the scruits there is no event. I try and smile and nod (count to 10 in head) and then point out politely why they are an idiot It seems that some personality types like to be 'officials' and they are usually those least suited to the role

As Andrew said, the issue we had with the banners was that the celicas have quite a low roof (and therefore windscreen) which makes it difficult to see out of for any driver over 5 foof tall.

We read the supp regs and it clearly stated the banner could be positioned on the bonnet for "low windscreened cars". Considering the banner impeded the vision of the drivers if placed on the windscreen then that qualified our cars to having the banner on the bonnet.

Neil came round to our garage and said we had done it wrong and the rule was meant for clubman type cars or cars without windscreens. If that's the case, it should state that. He quite forcefully stated that the cars weren't permitted on the track without it being changed... despite it being fine on Saturday.

The white TA22 is now missing a banner shaped section of paint on the bonnet because it had to be ripped off. It then refused to stick to the windscreen.

when I was waiting in line for scrutineering on Sat one of the Alfa officials said I would get knocked back when I went through because of the sticker on the bonnet not on the screen..."got all the sponsors here today and they need to get their monies worth" he said....got to the scrutineers and one of the old guys didn't say anything until I asked about it and he said "I can see when you drove in that you were looking out the top so wasn't going to make you change it".....refreshing to not have to explain myself and someone who used their common sense .......i'll be damned if sponsors exposure is gonna make me contort myself in my car for their gratification!

...as you can see my eyes are at rear vision mirror height.

The windscreen banner thing is definintely an area where regulations could be better written... quite possibly there was sponsor pressure in there too.. telling Neil they weren't happy etc etc...just a theory though.

Sponsors over safety? that's a bizzare 1st?? I was wondering what the logic behind that ruling could have been....no wonder grass roots motorsport has the royal shits with CAMS

It wasn't a CAMS event Justen, it was a AASA event, but this decision had nothing to do with either, it was an event promoter initiative
