    Can we move on from titanium exhausts? They are expensive, light and don't last as long. That's titanium 101 for you but I have a perfectly good 5Zigen mandrel bent system that is more than suitable and I'll be using that for the task.

    apparantly its all about the titanium.

    i use a ge block in my motors, i would think it would pay to ring a toyota spare parts place and see if the ge and GTE oil pumps have different part numbers, i dont htink they do from memory. water pump should be fine. get a standard 2jzgte head gasket. might need to measure up and see if with the ge pistons if it will become an inteference motor.

    Sorry, Between the GE and the GTE are the only differences the head and pistons?

    Yes, internally that is the only difference. The other being that it has oil squirters. But, crank and rods are the same.

    The oil pumps part numbers should be different and the water pumps on a ge and gte will be different also. On my ge oil pump it has no spot to mount the crank sensor so i've bought a gte one. I have heard that some ge oil pumps do have the spot for the crank sensor though. Also the waterpump and pipe that connects from the pump the the head is different so you'd have to get new ones from toyota also. Then the steel pipe that runs around the block to the pump could also be different as it has pipes that join to the turbos

    So the converting it to a GTE would be the easier and cheaper option wouldnt it?

    and like ed and the majority have said, cams, gt35r, medium boost, one pants shitting coming right up

    and remember once you get used to 250rwkW you'll want more again. you've got to find a spot where you're happy

    Probably. But then I have a built head and being that the block is pretty damn similiar essentially I'd be then paying for the price of a 2JZGTE for just a few ancilleries and an intake plenum being that I'm going single straight up. I don't need a head, I don't need twin turbo's and essentially I don't really need the block either.

    For sure Ryley. I was toying with keeping all my NA bits simply in case the EPA come a knockin' but will keep you in mind if I decide to sell.

    Are you going to be building this yourself mate? Cuz if you are paying for labour the costs will skyrocket. Just slapping a new head on your existing block sounds like an afternoons work but when you get around to it its quite time consuming and fiddly work. I know, I just put my head back a few days ago. And I really don't want to see another one for a long time

    I'm hoping so Nick. Well, with a few tech minded mates that is but I'm planning on doing 90% of it and then getting someone to do some of the wiring for me. I'm kinda hoping I can pop the bonnet, stand back and say "I did that".

    Wouldnt your biggest hurdles in the retor 1.5jz converison be the use of a completely different computer?

    In my 1JZ powered car, I kept the 1JZ ecu, as the sensors in teh head of the 1J are kept, and the bottom end 2JZ sensors were swapped for my original 1JZ items (although this wasnt required I later found out) where as going to a 2JZ would mean either a 2JZ-GTE ecu and much chopping and adapting, or complete standalone and piss poor cold start to match.

    I figured you'd be in a similar boat by swapping JZ heads?

    All of the sensors are the same between 1JZ and 2JZ. The only thing you'd need to swap is the injectors which isn't particularly difficult.

    Not even! The cylinder head sensors (cam shaft postion, crank position) and TPS sensors are different! The injectors wouldnt need to be swapped either, the 440 2J and 380 1J are the same inpedence and the facory ecu can handle the change with reset. I did this on my car
