    Default AE86 hubs/rotors on AE71 struts?

Some people seem to think YES
Some people seem to think NO

I've had a look around and cannot find an unequivocal statement about whether it is possible or not ... my gut tells me it isn't ... but it's been wrong before.

    According to the DBA catalogue:

    _____________AE71__AE86
    DIAMETER ___ 218 _ 234
    HEIGHT _____ 30 ___ 38
    THICKNESS __ 12.7 _ 12.5
    MIN THICK __ 11.5 _ 11.5
    CENTER HOLE. 64 ___ 64

So there's a chance that the bearings just might be compatible ...
If it worked, it would at least require fitting the AE86 backing plates as well ..

Has anyone tried this and can tell me for sure whether it works or not?

    cheers,
    Slapper

Is there any problem with just sourcing AE86 struts with the hubs attached? Then all you need are the steering arms and it'll be bolt up goodness in an AE71.

    Eddie.

EDIT: The other benefit is that you have a far wider range of shocks/springs with AE86 struts as the strut casing diameter is slightly smaller in an AE71.

AE71 panel van has same brakes as spoontah.

Only problem is that my AE71 struts are already wearing new shocks and lowered springs ... ouch!

I have a problem with hub and/or rotor on one side or the other and am looking for replacements - I was offered AE86 parts - hence the whole AE71 love for AE86 hubs & rotors question.

If I was starting from scratch, I'd prolly go the AE86 struts route .. but there you go.

Given the parallel between AE86 and AE71 wagon bits, a backing plate from an AE71 wagon may be the goodness I need - unless the wagon also has a longer stub axle ...
AE71 wagons are pretty few and far between at wreckers too, so it's not likely I can wander down and have a measure ... I could pull one of mine down and measure the stub axle, but I'm hoping to be in a "pull this off and put that on so my car's not off the road for long" situation - this is my daily driver.

    cheers,

Chances are that the axle spindles might be the same if not very similar. I spent a day at the wreckers once mixing and matching bearings/hubs and manage to get ae71 or ke70 hubs fitting onto my ke20 axles... and I think all i needed to change were the races that get pressed into the hub. Then I just took some measurements and noted which parts were from where and got some new stock..

    It just requires some experimentation
