im not familiar with the JZA70 dash but are you sure its an oil temp light and not an oil pressure light? I'd check the oil level before running the engine again and look for leaks especially at the filter
Hey Guys,
so i did my first service/oil change etc on my 1jz A70 supra. dash says its done almost 130k kms
What i did was:
-flush cooling system
-replced sparkplugs with bosch iridium/platinum
-replaced oil with Castrol Edge 5w-30
-replaced oil filter with a ryco to suit
now when i drive it once it heats up to running temp the oil temp warning light comes on. (the one in the middle of the tacho on the jza70 cluster). but when i start accelerating/using some boost the light goes off. then I drive normally and it comes back on. the engine temp seems normal however.
This has only happened after i have done the things listed above. My question is:
-why is it coming on and what do i need to do to fix it?
-and how bad is it?
thanks in advance,
Kieran

I have a feeling that is an oil level not oil temp sensor. Would have to check some wiring diagrames later to confirm 100%, but I don't think it is a temp sensor.
I'd agree with the above post. Sounds like an oil level/pressure issue rather than oil temp.
Could be the pump is on its way out and cant pump the lighter weight oil as effectively as the heavier stuff, or the oil you put in is too light.
yeah did some research my self I think it indicates low oil pressure which i think makes a bit more sense.
so does this would mean i need a thicker oil? if so how much thicker?
..also checked oil and level is fine
Is it a red light or an orange one?
Red = pressure, Orange = Level
I was also under the impression that the JZA70 would have an oil pressure guage from factory, which you can easily see if there is oil pressure on.

its a orange LED. but the level on the dip stick was just below full then i filled it up past that and still have the same problem...:S
i'll go take a photo of the light now
phone cable broke.. but anyway its the light inside the tacho
Sensor possibly stuffed or wiring.
As long as the oil pressure doesn't change when it happens then I wouldn't worry about it.

I dont have an oil pressure guage so i'm not sure. i'm really just concerned because it was fine before i started playing with it.
5w is pretty light, whats the standard weight recomended?
not sure as i couldnt find anything but told the 5w30 would do the trick.
I think i'm just gonna chuck some 10w40 magnatec that i've got lying around and see if that makes any difference
Arrggh, why did the digital dash A70's have an oil pressure guage where as the analogue ones had a voltage meter.
Who the fuck needs a volt meter???
Does it have a red oil pressure light somewhere ? (next to the boost gauge)

it has a red oil light between the fuel and boost guage but thats never come on while driving
and the voltmeter was good at telling me that the battery was almost flat the other day![]()
Does the red oil light go out within 1 second of starting the car ? (while warm)
