Default 3SGE gen2 no oil pressure

i have an issue with my Celica.
    3SGE gen2 conversion.

today ,starting the engine the oil pressure light didnt go off.
only time it would go off was if it reved to 3000rpm. idle, the oil light came back on.
sump is full of new cond oil....1000k's old. ELF 10W30 engine has done 80'000k
even ran the engine while the oil cap was off....some small amount of oil spray...
also...ran the engine without the oil filter..thinking it was blocked...and no oil came out.
my thoughts are a blocked oil pickup..or stuck pressure relief valve.....
i am not sure what the deal would be....hence this thread.
    thankyou,.

for the sake of the price, replace the oil pressure switch might be faulty...

if not im taking a stab at the oil pressure relief valve.. i had a commodore at work do that, boss told me to whack the oil filter housing with a bar and a hammer sorta like the way youd give a sticky starter motor a smack on the bum lol..... free'd it for a second, the light went off but came off so i took it off and it was all gunky...

    give that a go champ

sounds like a sticky relief valve , seems odd that it was fine yesterday in the heat, no problems...leave it sit overnight and all day today, start it, and no oil pressure..just like that!
so....i might have to pull the oil pump off sump off ohhhh not happy jan, big job!

    ....pressure switch works fine.

nooooo, they are right at the front of the engine!
so..full front needs to be dismantled..timing belt...sump, then unbolt complete alloy front section...unless...i can just remove sump , oil pickup and get to it from there.?
i am also going to clean out the oil pickup...

if its anything like that rav4 3fse engines you just need to remove the timing belt and its like 8 bolts or someshit, should have the pressure relief valve in the housing or someshit...

I don't know the 3SGE that well but in general I'd say it's either a sticky relief valve, or a blocked/missing/loose/gasketless pickup.

If I was you I wouldn't be revving it when the oil pressure light is on (!!). If it doesn't get pressure at idle you know it's not right and revving it won't help!!

my theory was, tha tif its a sticky relief valve then high oil pressure would move it.

anyway...i found the issue....it took me a while to locate...after replacing, oil relief valve , cleaning out a very clean oil pickup.
after replacing the above, including oil, i ran it...again! no oil pressure, so ..i spent ages removing the rocker cover...big job!, after removal i took the plugs out and turned the engine over with the key ,again, nothing, so i removed the oil pressure sender, wound it over...nothing!, then i removed the timing cover and i found that the timing belt was loose.
upon further investigation i found that the oil pump pulley had been loose and over time the center had spun out of it. Instead of having a key way , the whole is now round.....ARRRRRRRRGH!
so..a new timing belt and pulley will fix.

farkin hell! guess it shows the benefit of changing the timing belt before you put in an unknown engine

hmmm, i'd be dumping that oil and changing the filter before running it again, i'd also check for metal filings!!!

this is how i'd do it:

    Flush oil
    filter oil
put oil back in motor, with sump plug out, so oil comes straight back out.
filter it again, put sump plug back in, fill it with oil,
dump it, check for metal shavings again,
sump plug in, new oil filter, new oil
run it for 10 mins, dump oil, check for any shavings (may have been left in the block somewhere)
put oil back in and be happy that there is no chance of metal filings being in the block

that way you clear the block if there is anything in it from when you revved it without oil pressure!!
thats wat i'd do, but that could just be me!!

    good luck

the motor wont be damaged he hasnt been driving it for that long with no oil pressure...

rob the engine will be fine, customers drive to us the oil light on for quite a while, the first thing that will happen is youll burn the bottom end bearings or youll sieze a ring.... if the motor runs smoothly after then it would probly be safe to say the motor has recieved no damage
