Not if the car was a 6 CylinderThe weight calculation changes if it had more than 4 cylinders from the factory.

Mono Constructed more than 4 cylinder vehicles get:

oh...before i foget, Jack,
have you tried resting the motor in place with the starter motor bolted into the block? as thats one thing i notcied in a customers car that the stater motor sits quite low and wide.... maybe an issue fowling on the rack?
and does the front sump version clear a ta23/ke70 style cross member?
Can someone please change the title of this thread to "LS1 > 1UZ"??

I need a working 4AGE bottom end. Pref smallport GZE, but all others considered. Also complete motors.
Drift Volvo. Was fun. 2JZ next time.
I believe there are two styles of starter motors Blake. The one I have is very small and compact. I will fit it up and see whether it fouls on the steering rack.
The front sump does fit the KE70 cross member well, HOWEVER the engine sits quite forward, so depending on how pedantic you are about weight distribution would determine if sump mods would be required to get the engine back.
I am feeling suitably inadequate right now.... :-( Seeing as I bought a 1uz...
Why? per CC the UZ is still clearly the better engineered engine. It's just hard to argue with the cubes of the LS. Once they improved the quality of materials they are made from so they hang together a bit better and got some weight out, they became (in my book anyways) a real alternative.
A little like the argument between all motor and turbo...some say one is the blunter tool but jeez it gets the job done![]()

I think if you looked around you'd find numerous other manufacturer engines that have advantages over the equivalent Toyota one, and of course the reverse is also true (hence UZs/JZs finding their way into all sorts of vehicles)
I personally dont care how much power or how easy it is to get from an LSx because id never put GM pushrod junk into my car. I also admire an engine conversion from the same manufacturer over an engine from someone else... maybe thats just me :shrugs: Its like LS-powered RX-7s: regardless what you think about rotarys (and i dont care much for them either) its just somehow not right to do it!
Depends what you want from the car, if you want it to go hard then the LS engines win hands down, smaller lighter and more grunt end of story, but if you want to keep it all in the family then yes the 1uz is the logical engine for a toyota, but i think there is merit in picking what you want in a car and going out and finding it no matter what brand it is, look at race cars like V8supercar they are either holden or ford badged but apsolutely nothing on them is manufactured for the road going versions in AUS, If it does what you want and makes you happy then DO IT i say, I chose a 1uz for my Hilux for the reliability and V8 factor that only V8 drivers know, the fact that its a toyota engine is a bonus.
