Only issue with opening straight to excel is that it will truncate any leading zeros on figures on a .csv file as all the cells are formatted as general and the .csv format will not allow you to save any changes made to the formatting of the file.
Best option would be to change the file ext when saved on the pc as .txt before you ever open it in excel then import into excel & set the format type for each column of data & then save it as a .xml file. This will then save all the format changes & make it easy to view.
You would obviously have to know what the delimtter is for the file as well to split the columns.
