i am pretty sure that you can apply for an exemption
as one of my builder mates got one for the apprentice to drive the v8 ute ,
and the same thing applies for P platers driving the family car if its a v8 or xr6 etc
or rebadge it , i dont think the cops would know what it is ,driving it responsibly ,with no badges could be another option

somethign to be aware of. my flatmte had years ago an ae92 gtz which is the factory setup ae92 with the supercharger (import) it hooked along pretty well, not the fastest thing in the universe but certainly quick. but it was a serious handful to drive. not something id hand to a kid who just got his p's

    just food for thought.

I calculate a high probability that the OP is not the father but the 17yr old son.

Driving a car with 8.0 CR isnt that bad, by the time we sold the magna all 4 cylinders were under 90 psi, which equates to 6.1 or so, it was fine, ran like shit coz there was other problems with it, but it wasnt that bad on the road, 0-60 in 5secs or so 0-100 you dont want know (17.5 secs)

my 5m-ge had 8.2CR and that was fine aswell, but that was a 6cyl and had some decent torque!

i'd say disconnect the supercharger take it for a drive and see what you think of it!

The thing is the 4AGE ain't exactly known for it's torque even at 9 or 10:1 compression, running it at 8 or so would make it even more of a dog down low. It is only a 1.6L remember.

disconnect the supercharger relay and take it for a drive, that will give you an idea of how it will drive without it :S

You would have to re engineer it to show its not supercharged anymore . Just to drive it on P's .

Better off reselling it, and buying something already to go . Or even Offer a swap .

You never know, some guy might eb coming off his p's sellin his NA corolla and may want to swap plus cash your way ....

As Ian said, you can get an exemption if it's registered in your name and he has a 'requirement' to operate it.
...however, I think it's worth noting that these laws are there for a reason (even though there is fault in the system, the reasoning is sound), and you might want to consider how you'll feel if your son does wrap it around a tree and harms/kill himself, passengers or a third party.
...also the legal consequences if that happens and you've attempted to conceal the supercharger.
