Default 2010 Toyota Nationals - Qld roll call

At the TCCQ meeting last night, we talked about a more organised Qld presence at the 2010 event.

Rather than leave any organisation to the last minute (as is the usual tradition) we felt that starting a list early one and getting folks acting in concert might improve the state's turn-out and allow the TCCQ to garner some support. The club could then chip in and provide stickers/banners etc plus folks acting as a group might make accomodation booking easier.

So, for the Nationals in 2010 - who plans to go; what car do you want to bring; anything important folks should know; likely departure day.

btw : this list is folks heading down from Qld or Nth NSW

    THE QLD LIST
Charles (thechuckster) - GT4 Celica - i snore loudly - could be going with Simon
Andrew - ST162 Celica - I snore louder than Charles - TBA depending on route.
Wilbo - something 2J powered - had my fair share of snoring fat guys - now unlikely, lacking in motivation
    Adam - AW11 - ditto for snoring - maybe for 2010
    daviesjn12 - GZ20 - pre-book accomodation - via new england highway
    Major Clod - RA23 - ?? - ??
    13btt lotus - ?? - ?? - ??
Sillycar Chick - can't make it
    RAd28 - can't make it
KE30 - 4AGZE - I'm tall and my car is small ... i'm going need a long bed to sleep in at the other end
    NME308 - 3TC-TA23 - - leaving Rockhampton and catch-up at Qld/NSW Border on Friday
PH@_MAN - MA61 - been to long since I slept with anyone else to tell if i snore...
    Robbos_Toyotas - MA61-7MGTE? - may actually stay in Dubbo for a change - TBA

Hey Chucky, I'll be putting in a concerted effort to get there this year as I was a no-show this or last year. The car will be just about completed so I should be good, and the event is ~6 months away. You might remember that I'm on the North Coast of NSW so whatever route you're taking (from memory you QLD guys go inland) will depend on when and where I can meet up with you. Either way it's a ~1000km trip each way.

Andrew - ST162 Celica - I snore louder than Charles - TBA depending on route.

PS: leaving things to the last minute is like getting a rocket up your ass... a sense of urgency is all it requires to kick us along.

I'd also like to make the trip.

Very tentative at this stage however.

I'll probably meet up with you then - Armidale is about ½-way there for me. Depends on when people are leaving and on which route.

A quick pull up of Google Maps tells me there's a few ways people can head there from QLD, again depending on where they all leave from. eg. there's the back-back road which is more or less:
    Brisbane/Toowoomba/Goondiwindi/Moree/Narrabri/Coonabarabran/Dubbo

Then there's a more inland route which is Brisbane/Ipswich/Warwick/Stanthorpe/Tenterfield/Glen Innes/Guyra/Armidale/Tamworth/Gunnedah...Dubbo

And then there's the inland route which my Google Maps is telling me to take which is Ballina/Grafton/Armidale/Tamworth/Gunnedah...Dubbo but this would require QLD peoples to come down the Pac Hwy.

The first option is good for mostly flat road driving (from what I can see on the Google Maps), the second option would be more fun driving through the western side of the range, and the third option which I took last year, which is a bit of the first two combined.

Again this can be discussed more in detail later on but those are the main options, but the last option is the most fuel economical, far less distance to cover.

In my experience the goondiwindi way has always been quicker for me, as i do the trip to orange that way atleast 2 times a year. Pretty flat, long and boring drive that way though. Also little tip, (good if you make the right turn) Coonabarabran - Mandoren (sp?) - Dubbo (instead of going through gil) can save some time.

Ofcourse on the inlad route in my ta22 i had to keep a eye on fuel and refeulled alot as the middle part of the trip is pretty much 100km between towns. Not good when mine only does about 300km a tank.

Not sure if i'd go down to this, need a better car before i can show/compete in anything. But there is a rare chance i could be down there for my brothers birthday anyways

Yup seems you QLD boys have a shorter trip coming from the sticks area of the border.

As for me, I wanna try to get together with you northern folk at Moree perhaps.

The solid blue line shows the quicker path, but the indigo line through Moree is about 50km longer but I get to cruise with you guys from about the halfway point.
