    Default 18R timing chain

    Howdi all just wondering how many kms ya get out of a timing chain on an 18R, i still got my original one and shes done nearly 180,000kms and gettin pretty loud

    Time to change it out. You have done well but dont push the issue. You can replace the chain without too much trouble if you are prepared to wind the new chain on. A little tricky for the first timer but take all care and time and its easy. two people are needed , one to feed the chain and keep the tension and one to gently wind the engine over using the harmonic balancer bolt.

    Hi Airfireman,

    I am about to change the timing chain of my 18R (makes sounds like war).
    I was wondering if it is possible to replace chains and tensioners without removing the head and pan? I mean just the chain cover and stuffs attached to it (waterpump of course.)...

    have fun mate, i just replaced both chains, got the head reconditioned, replaced all tensioners, new sump gasket........engine was outta the car for ages n dropped a spare 18R in it while i put the other one back together.....its a (lots of swear word jobs) if ya never done anythin like it before.
