    Default CP Piston's X-Forging... Awesome! (Custom 1UZ)

Just a quick heads up on these puppies....

i finally received my set of pistons that ive been working on with CP to suit a hybrid 2UZ 1UZ combo im mixing together (1.5UZ FTW!). theyre a one-off for me, but the price isnt any different for a stock item anyway from what i can figure, plus the exchange rate at the moment rocks. anyway, price was US$1880 inc rings and pins + shipping

anyway, these things are awesome. not just my pistons so much, but the design of the forging itself. ill let the pics below do most of the talking, the leaps and bounds these things take of your usual forged slug is pretty darn cool. ill get some proper weights on them in the next few days, but i think theyre around 20-30% lighter than stock pistons.

so yeah, just some pics cause im stoked, and am really happy with how this whole thing worked out

    cheers

are we going to run a poll to guess how long these last? <ducks>

seriously: that's an extremely p0rn looking thing - reminds me of V10 slugs i saw on a BMW promo F1 video.

Damn, nice set of shelf pistons there, reminds of some motorbike pistons I've seen in the past. So they let you run 1UZ rods with the 2UZ crank in a 1UZ block? Nice thinking.

BTW are those skirts teflon coated out of the box or is that another anti friction coating of some sort?

Bout time someone did X forgings for something that isnt a nascar or a motorbike. Very nioce

So ed, what is the predicted gain from using these over conventional forged pistons? They didnt live up to the task?

yeah, cp didnt exactly make it easy for me to get this piston in the X-forging style! really had to pester them to do it, and they modified one of the dies for some other piston to get it to fit the specs i wanted. worth it though

the shirt coating is some kind of dry lubricant. its an added option that CP offers, but its done out of house, and i dont know the exact details on it

main aim of these for me over a regular forging is the weight saving and the smaler skirt profile. im dropping the stroke on this engine to 78.5mm and a combination of lowering the piston speed, and reducing the rot/recip weight was another big goal. im looking at 10k rpm for this engine

nothing really wrong with the old piston, but it was heavy, not really a 10k rpm piston to look at it, plus ive added 8.5mm to the bore dia and needed new pistons anyway.

    cheers

Ed, $1880US, that price is awesome! Just wondering, did you get gapless rings and an upgraded pin or standard issue pins?

i dont really like the gapless rings anymore, they just seem a bit shady on the oil control side, and seem difficult to bed properly and reliably. they make good compression if you get it right, but still... anyways the set i got are a chrome plated 1.2mm/1.2mm/2.5mm ring pack

the pins are .787 (20mm) and 2" long

dont know if theyre anything special though, im just trying to find the specific items i got in their catalogue

the guys knew exactly what the pistons were going into, and what rpm band we were looking at, so hopefully they picked something good for the setup

nah, looks like theyre their standard pins, not the diamond finish, coated, cryo'd pins.

im getting a bunch of stuff croy'd soon anyway, so can get these pins done in that lot easily enough
