Closer to the front of the engine...?

My 5MGE is throwing code 52 - knock sensor.
Now, I've found the knock sensor wire, but canna find the knock sensor, or even where it screws into the block.
I know its *somewhere* under the intake manifold, but its hard to look for something that isn't there.
Can anyone point out to me in these pics where it is?
Scuse the shit pics, but its not the easiest place to look at, let alone take pics.

Im pretty sure its either between the 3rd and 4th cylinders or 2nd and 3rd cylinders, close to the top of the block.

If it's anything like my 1G, it'll be tucked right up at the top of the block.

Well you can see the intake manifold there, which is at the base of the head, or just above the top of the block.
That 2nd pic starts from about cyl #2

You also have one riiiight at the back too.
7MGTE is very similar to 1JZ
5M has only one.

Carry on
(re bling: you never see it)

Ok, I've come to the conclusion that my block doesn't have a knock sensor location.
Which is wierd coz then engine number is roughly the same as my old cressida's one, which gives a timeline that it should have one.
Meh.
That all aside, is there anywhere that I can *safely* put the knock sensor such that it won't get false readings?
At the moment as soon as rpm >2000 the CEL will come on (knock sensor not screwed in anywhere)

anywhere where it wont see/hear vibrations between 4800 Hz and 5600 Hz - somewhere in there will be a particular band of noise that denso knock sensors (and associated hardware) listen for.
i's suggest wrapped in hard foam/rubber and zip-tied to the wheel arch near where the loom enters the engine bay - or even better, mounted in the glovebox well away from the engine.
Glovebox is right next to a speaker, not a good location.
Will find something in the engine bay

Just had a look(feel) under my bonnet. I think I've found it. Can't really see it. It feels similar to an oil pressure switch but much longer.
It's directly behind where the small water hose with the bend(shown in your second and third pics) connects to the intake manifold. It's mounted right next to that core plug but a fraction higher up the block.
How weird.
My 5M is 86 vintage
ill check my 5mge at home, see if i can see it. should be easy enough as its still in the trailer![]()
