I think most people around here tend to go down with their rides not up
Hi guys, I drive an AE95 4wd wagon.
I really want to find a safe, easy & affordable mod' to raise my suspension & get some ground clearance.
I'm considering an extra inch on the wheels themselves, an extra inch on the tyres & a couple of extra inches on the suspension to get my wagon to a better 'off road' height, especially when it's carrying a load in the back.
So..that means, probably a bit of rake that has the rear-end sitting higher.
(Whatever gets the funny angle at the back of the roof sitting close to level)
has anyone tried getting some extra height out of their AE95?
Does anyone know if there's other car parts that definitely fit, but when put into an AE95 would give more ride height?
I know plenty of people do it on various subi modelsold & new but that's usually with a full lift kit &... as far as I know no-one's ever done a lift kit job on an AE95.
Doing a custom job's outta my budget.
There's gotta be a relatively simple & effective way to beef up the suspension & ground clearance a bit.
Got any ideas, suggestions on what/where to look or know anyone who's already done this with some good results, I'd be very interested to know.
Thanks.![]()

Re: rides down not up.
True that Thanks.
Still..., I know from researching old threads I'm not the first person to have had this thought with the AE95.. Just haven't found some one who's done it.
I know this might sound dumb but I'm new to modding so bear with me. I guess the first place to start is: How do I find out what I've got - factory standard?

If you speak to a Suspension place they should be able to give you the factory ride height, or the net might be a good place to have a look too.
Once you find out the factory height measure your car and allow for 30-40mm for spring sag over theyears. One would assume that you would have factory springs.
If you are un sure as to what you are doing head into you local suspension shop and ask as you have above, I want to raise my car how do I go about it. Hopefully there are some spring listed in their catoluge

Yeah I sent an email to 'Pedders" some time ago... & some other toyota places re: other queries. Seems email aint all it's cracked up to be these days
You assume right - I still have the 20 year old factory springs - they're thin as tooth picks n sag like a mo-fo.
You're plan's fair enough... find the factory height at least. Then start ringing around...
Sounds like ABC when you put it like that.. Doh!![]()
Suspension shop is a good start, but for raising the height I'd start with a 4x4 place like Opposite Lock or something like that closer to you. Funnily enough, I took my old RAV to get *lowered* by a 4x4 place. Needless to say the looks on the guys' faces was priceless. I ended up re-doing the rear suspension height so it was 65mm lower all-round, as one of the springs on the O/L job snapped when I went too hard over a pot-hole.
But seriously, places such as Opposite Lock and the like cater for just about every 4WD vehicle on the roads here. Ask them what they've got to suit your ride. They might be able to come up with a (xx)mm lift kit to your needs, like 30mm, 60mm raise or whatever. It's worth an ask anyway.![]()
Yeah I suppose you're right.. doesn't hurt to ask..
Everytime I've thought of that, I figured they'd just give me those same funny looks...
