    Default Supercharger on 1jz, but.....

    Hey guys,

Just had a bit of a brain wave... I have a g35r equipt 1jz, which I would imagine will be quite laggy once I tune it. So after seeing a R35 GTR with twin turbos AND twin supercharegers, it got me wondering about chucking a supercharger on my bus for a bit of low down fun.

I know its a bit extreme an uncalled for but I love doing things a bit differently.

Any thoughts and suggestions would be great!

    Dan

While this could be interesting, but you have to really weigh up how much you want to be different, how much more benefit could you get from it or how much would it potentially cost over a 2JZ bottom end?

Yeah Id only bother if I had enough knowledge to make an informed decision on the right charger to get low down torque...

Funyy you should mention the 2jz bottom end, I have one of those right here, however I'm not really interested in that atm because I just want the 1j going as its nbeen off the road for 2 years lol. Supercharger and 2j bottom end will come together when the 1j blows up

And just for a bit of wank factor, I love the sound of a glimer driven supercharger

No good mate . The supercharger would be a massive restriction in the peak power process if your looking to improve down low response ...

Many people have said "wouldn't it be cool to twincharge my XYZ". Very very few people have actually done it. There is a reason for this.

What turbine housing on the 35? If it is a .8 or .6 you shouldn't have any issues drifting. If it is 1.06, get a 50hp n20 kit installed and activate from greater than 3000rpm and deactivate at 10psi. About a million times easier than twincharging! Heaps of guys are using nitrous in d1 these days on sr's with much bigger than gt35 sized turbos

Or sell turbo and get a .8 GT3076R and give up 30-40rwkw total and make boost 500ish rpm earlier (1000ish rpm if you have a 1.06 gt35r, BTW this is what I am in the process of doing now. Straight swap )

there is a couple of things you can do to help reduce lag, all of which are heaps cheaper and less complex than twin charge..

full engine management? can you have it tuned to have a good advanced timing curve untill it starts to make boost?

adjustable cam gears? (i think 1j/2j's have almost 0 overlap anyway) or possibly a good ex cam at least to help spool it..

different turbo manifold? is it a poorley designed ebay one? or a nice 6boost or Extreme Custom Engineering one with a tapered merge collector etc etc.. cooler size and piping??

Yeah, the reality is I was just pulling myself that twin charging was a good idea. I havent even got the car tuned yet but no doubt it will well exceed my expectations anyhow

The car uses extreme turbo manifold and .8 gt35r. EMS stinger is running the show but only because it was already in the car when I bought it.

You have to admit that straight cut gears on a charger and the wastegate opening would make some pretty cool noises if it was twin charged though

Easily doable and has been done for the 1JZ...there's a twin charge 1J running around Albury, pulls like a train apparently.

Those that say 'restriction' don't understand how twincharging in series works and unless you are using a ridiculously small SC it's not an issue.

There are issues though and compound boost is one of them if you go with the setup in series ie you'll end up with a total boost much higher than you think. That turbo is actually too small to bother with a twincharge setup. The turbo will effectively 'see' an n/a engine the equivalent size of your boosted 1J ie much larger than 2.5 litre.

Having done this on my UZ i can say it does make crazy noises and was a wild ride.....doesn't look like your setup is going to need it though so my advice is just optimise what you have already.

this thread has the attention of a lot of the charger heads...

what about a straight charger on a 2JZGTE (no turbo though)

after watching some videos of the 2.2 (SR20) twin screw charged drift car from perth I am quite intrigued

what sort of blower and how much boost would be needed for 350rwkw?

would an Eaton M90 do that? or are you looking at an M112 minimum?

Yeah this would be interesting, like what Justen mentions with running in series, it's how I would do it. I too wonder how you size the charger accordingly when you do this. For something like a 1JZ the effective displacement would be larger with the turbo but by how much? M90s are fitted to some rather large displacement engines.

M90 won't flow anywhere near 350rwkw by itself (it's not twin screw BTW but a roots). Best fitment would be an optcon or sprintex twinscrew......sized for 350rwkw easy.

A dude i know in the US is currently SCing his 2J with triple SC's off a common driveshaft and triple TBs....looks wild!!

    what about the M112?

total cost for the project couldnt really exceed 4 grand...bearing in mind ive already got the fuel system, management, clutch, etc etc...car can handle

the sprintex will consume that 4 grand very very quickly wouldnt it?

that said...the S1-600 sounds very tasty...real estate for such a monster would be hard to find though...it would all have to go on the exhaust side and have extractors to go over it...
