Default bigport cams in smallport 4agze

Im guessing this has been asked many a times but I've searched and can't find anything...

Can 4age 16v bigport cams be put into a 4agze 16v (which I have been told all have smallport cams)??

If so is all I need to do is redo the valve clearances?

Also what other cheap and easy to do mods can u do on a gze?

yes u can swap them. best bang for buck would be a bigger crank pulley or smaller s/c pulley imo

i agree, a pulley upgrade before you want to mess with the cams.

be sure it's a early 3 rib 4age bigport, otherwise it wont have the 7.56 cams.

I beleive all gze's are supposed to have the 232deg 7.1mm lift "smallport" cams unless someone can prove otherwise

There are two bigport 4AGEs though, the 3-rib (originally had blue and black writing on the cam cover) and the 7-rib (red and black writing). It is only the 3-rib bigports that have the more aggressive cams, as well as smaller/lighter internals. Supposedly the last of the AE82s had the 7-rib, but quite a few have had engine changes by now so you can't always go by what was there stock.

My AE101 GZE had smallport cams. I installed bigport cams with HKS cam gears, was a direct replacement.
Just use a set of verniers to measure the cams to make sure they're the bigport cams.

A little. Bit better midrange to top end, according to the bum dyno. Wasn't huge though (like a pulley).
I've played with the cam timing a bit too, so it's a bit different from stock now (and develops more boost due to less overlap. 10PSI on stock pulleys)
