    http://www.dowson.co.za/products/stag.htm

its designed for steam and metal on metal jointing
this stuff was suggested to me by some of the most well known engine builders in australia.

ie the guys that build the 2000hp+ ski and drag boats and funny car engine builders. if its good enough for those motors its good enough for me, also used by oem.

i'm prepared to take there word on it doing the right thing.

permatex is good for some gaskets but as most of them don't "set" they kinda dont have great longevity. especially 3J(the black goo in the little white bottle with the red lid), great on manifolds and water pumps thats about the extent of it though

That Stag sealer just looks like a generic pipe sealer similar to any loctite or permatex pipe sealer, hardly the be all and end all to sealing core plugs but is more than likely quite effective.
A leaky core plug is still a leaky core plug whether it is in a 2000 hp engine or a 200hp engine.
The 2000+ hp engines are probably irrelevant because the majority of the blocks will be grout filled, with the grout level above the core plugs anyway.

I dont doubt it works and it is just a personal preference thing as i have spoken to mechanics that will use no sealer on them and they still dont have a problem.

Anyway hopefully its on the exhaust side so it will make it a little easier to change, just bleed the system and keep an eye on the temp hopefully it hasnt done any damage.

its not manditory to use a sealant but i guess its personal preference as to whether to put some around it before you put it in.

    Really?? Weren't there options?
Also, sealant is used to fill any scrapes gouges nicks, previous removal marks and manufacturing & installation defects, block & plug, so in a perfect world the sealant isn't necessary if that's where your engine lives.

'I've scrapped better.' John stated when asked about the car by the guy with the silver tipped cowboy boots!
