Default Brahma Canopy - 1992 Hilux - What gas struts.

    Hi,

My 1992 rn85r came with a brahma canopy and the gas struts are shot (I actually saw one burst and spit out all it's fluid). I have pulled them off and bought them to a couple of local merchants and they said they don't have a match in stock and need a part number to order something in...

Being nearly 20 years old, I cannot find any marking on either strut I rang the brahma dealer (well brahma are bankrupt, but he still sells spares) and he said just bring it in and he can find a match no worries... only problem he is in sydney and I am not!

Does anyone have a reference to a part number? or have such a canopy they could check the struts for me?

The glass is neither half empty nor half full, rather the glass is twice as big as it needs to be.

ok so far from what I can see some of the closer ones are

    PN: 4524 : 389mm open, 275 closed ball socket nylon 10mm : Nissan maxima bonnet 95-99
    PN: 4604 : 397 open, 251 closed ball socket steel : Nissan patrol 97-on
    PN: 4547 : 374 open 274 closed blade ball socket nylon 10mm: : Lexus Es300 96-01

they obviously arent exact matches but you still may be able to use them

Might be a good idea to try contact Gabriel as they maybe able to do a search to find something closer , but thats all I could really find within the book ive got here.

It's not just the length you need to watch, it's the pressure. A Lexus or Maxima bonnet weighs a lot more than the rear window of a canopy.

You will probably want something around 150N (which is around 15kg) of force, as that is what similar canopies from other companies use. Some bonnet struts can go as high as 750N, if you fitted those you'd never get the lid shut!

There are a few traders on eBay that offer gas struts for other canopies for under $50 a parir. Try messaging them and see what they suggest?
