David: the setup is similar to an MX62 cressida - take a trip down to the wreckers and take some notes if you find one of these.
Hi all, long time no visit :-(
The 5M-E (1982 Cressida) I'm working on has an emissions system that differs from all of the diagrams I have seen - Haynes manual, Toyota Emissions Control and Maintenance Guide for Crown and Cressida and diagrams from a supra web site. IT'S MAKING MY BRAIN HURT!
Unfortunately the usual under hood schematic is not there and as the engine isn't running yet I can't suck and see or use vacuum gauges etc.
It had never been connected properly, broken BSVC valves, missing tubes etc.
The system on this 5M-E appears to be some sort of unique hybrid. There is no 'valve B' located below the EGR valve. There is no VCV or VSV in the joining line between the EGR valve and the EGR modulator. There is a three port 'vacuum surge' device as described in the Toyota brochure. There are other differences.
I have photos and have drawn up a schematic and am trying to figure things out first principles but I'm running out of time.
So could anyone please, PLEASE post a scan of a diagram from the workshop manual or a shot of the bonnet diagram?
In particular I am stuck as to where port 7 on the throttle body is meant to go and where Y port from the air injection VCV goes.
See diagram below of what I think is mostly right working from some of the sources I have.
Cheers
David

It is an MX62 Cressida! - I failed to put that in last post.
Stay tuned I have a new image from Toyota - again different from what's on the car but closest I've found - I think I can nut it out now. I think the first diagram of mine above is wrong. Once I've traced it I'll post it, don't have a scanner atm (some rep points maybe but it seems that few on this forum care about emissions control - I know why, it's because it is like following a plate of spaghetti!) - as far as I know I don't see how emissions control would effect performance that much - it does make the engine bay look untidy and the air inject pump would zap - what, maybe, a 1/2 horse?
The diagram from Toyota came from the parts catalogue/database so if anyone has access to it if they could post images for the emissions control I'd be grateful. Again I'd like to work it out from principles but don't have much time nor do I yet have a vacuum guage (yet) to test things.
I'd go to the wreckers if the bloody car was on the road - aaaargh!
My T18 is off the road as well!![]()

Jealousy is a curse
hey mate why cant you just take it all out?
Whats the benefit of taking it out?
to make room and get rid of all the crap..
what are you trying to make room for by removing vacume line and vacume pump?
I dont see a reason in trying to remove something that has no effect on your performance but is designed to save fuel on cruize for your pimp mobile.
Theres 3 different 5ME vacuume diagrams in Australia early and late MX62/MS112 , Then the SR 1984 on 5ME .
Most of the plastic vacuume valve are broken now so if i were you id take it all off bar the EGR valve and air pump and just plumb these up so they look like there working.

I think you may need vacuum advance on the distributorOriginally Posted by cambelt

Some of us like to have more simple looking engines with out shit everywhere.. It is also in the way of the dipstick and its just a pain in the ass.
My fj.. No shit in the way !
Exaust gas re-circulation (EGR)valve is responsible for the fuel saving.
Any ways if you get done for removing your pollution gear than what.
Nice FJ by the way is it in a Gazelle?
Yeah it was in a gazelle
RIP
how are you going to get done? It is a 1982 car that looks like a mixture of a gemini and a commodore. No copper in their rigt mind can be bothered to pop your bonnet and look for pidgeons .
They never even picked up on the fact my car had an fj not ca20 lol
nice lobster back 'driftkid'
RIP?..... do you want to talk about it?
sorry for off topic gasedT18.
