RA23 Rev Gauge Bouncing Up and Down
Hi everyone
i have a slight problem, its on and off and doesnt really worry me but just wanted to see if someone else has run into this problem.
ok so when it happens ill be holding the throttle down at a certain postion and hold the same rpm as i do this the gauge will fluctuate by +/- 1000 rpm and even more if the aircon fan or lighter is on.
my uncle whos got an old mkII suggested its the connection either at the alternator or at the reg box. i have checked all the connections in that area and cleaned them with contact cleaner but still the problem persists
your thoughts are greatly appreciated

Re: RA23 Rev Gauge Bouncing Up and Down
Definately sounds like an issue with the signal but thats really not something I can help with.
It certainly wont affect your rego though, tacho isnt a requirement for the check, a lot of cars dont even have them.
Perhaps it could be an issue with charge or something to do with the alternator if it gets worse as the power draw changes, I'm really clutching at straws here

Re: RA23 Rev Gauge Bouncing Up and Down
Might be the ground connection for the instruments. Especially if running extra accessories increases the effect. Not sure where the ground is in a 23 though. Most likely behind the dash on some part of the metal frame.

Re: RA23 Rev Gauge Bouncing Up and Down
hmm i see i didnt check that. i can see why that would most likely be the problem because it happens when you hit a bump/pot hole and stops after you hit another one so maybe its dilogging it and then putting in back in place.
thanks ill try that out
+rep for both of your guys, thanks
