    Default 2jz in 84 supra

as you guys might alrady know, I have an sa63 celica.

in about 3 months when I get back from japan... if I don't sell my car before then, I plan to convert my celica into a supra (put the front end of a supra onto the celica to extent the engine bay)

my question is this: Are chassis of the supra and the Celica significatly different besides cross members or will i need to swap over the chassis?

also... would that make it impossible to register if I fit it with a twin turbo 2jz?

wouldn't be suprised if i will have to change the rear drive and box, but i don't see that as a big problem... I'd just be more worried about the engine/bellhousing/gearbox not being able to fit under the car/firewall... though I wouldn't mind toooo much, I'd just rather not ofcourse.

How much do you guys think it would cost from start to finish to transfer the hardware... I can weld structural stuff, though I don't have a mig for sheet metal... and I have just about every tool under the sun.

    1. Sell SA63
    2. Buy MA61
    3. Read any of the eleventy billion threads of other people doing this swap
    4. Buy required parts
    5. ???
    6. Profit.

Seriously, the benefits of starting with an ma61 are many, not least of which is making engineering a hell of a lot easier, having bearable brakes, and probably the added bonus of a W58 already in there!

the supra chassis i would say is exactly the same as the celica one except the supra is ~200mm longer in the nose and the struts and crossmember are a bit further forward. everything from firewall back on the supras will swap into the sa63. the front brakes on the sa63 are actually the same as the supra ones. having that extra length in the nose though is prefered especially for a 2jz. look into a 1ggte for the sa63 methinks

    i want my 1000hp >_<

I was thinking about getting a supra from a wrecker and fully restoring everything I swap...

I was going to respray it and weld in a roll cage... I was just wondering if I had to swap the chassis over too.

you could fit a 1jz/2jz into the sa63 easy enough, its been done before.
prob have to go to a single turbo as the rear stock turbo will foul. but engineering would be another story.

1000hp is a hell of a call...you're going to want a MASSIVE budget, and I think that starting with an MA61 would be a tiny, tiny dent in that budget that would be well worth it.

By the time you accumulate all the parts for the swap, find the bits that are missing, deal with all the problems, you'd spend far more than just buying the car to start with. Best way is to keep an eye on the forums, trading post, etc, and wait for one with a 1J/2J to turn up. There was one in Perth not that long ago that went for 5k, maybe less, in quite nice condition.

    1000hp=
    Rebuilt engine, forged EVERYTHING: 5-10k
1000hp turbo, manifold, lines, intercooler, piping, wastegate, exhaust: 10k+
    Injectors, fuel system, pumps, 2-3k
    Ignition system-1k
    Engine management: 3k
    Clutch: 2K+
    Gearbox 5k+
    Diff 1-2k
    Driveshaft 1k
    Chassis strengthening: 2k+
    Wheels, tyres, suspention, brakes: 5-10k

    And that's just a start...

    sounds about right

so what advantage of using the ma61 chassis over the sa63 chassis? and why is the second turbo going to foul?

MA61 chassis is longer, basically. MUCH easier to make the engine fit. Longer also means more stable, which you'll want with that much power.

Talking of stable...if you're going to burn that kind of money, start with a decent base, like a JZA80. There's a few built ones going for the 30k mark on carsales, two of them with a lot of the work you're going to have to do, done.

when you say chassis... do you mean the chassis rails or are you just refering to the nose cone? if so... I was gonna swap that over anyway.

well, I guess it all depends which chassis has the lease amount of rust to cut out.

well, I guess a jza80 is more economical... but its not as cool

meh I dunno what to do with it.

The entire chassis forward of the firewall is longer.

    /\______________/\

What he said...You'll have to actually cut the front off the the car, and weld the entire front end from the supra on. This will most likely be a lot weaker than the factory job, very difficult and time consuming, and very difficult to get the car straight and aligned without a chassis jig.

    or an ma61

it really depends what you're after, and it sounds like a jza80 just isn't quite it... ma61 is prettier than the sa63 anyways
